BT fibre optic

I currently have 10mb virgin cable but thinking of changing.

My current line is only capable of up to 11mb but this will be 20mb by the end of july as BT infinity fibre optic will be available.

My question is, will i only be able to get this fibre optic speed through BT or through any ISP? i.e. talk talk, sky

that page has not changed all year as far as I can see - zero news, no evidence of anyone having service other than early trials in 2008/9, not even mentions of staff.

Who knows what will happen. Economics may mean sky will take all year or longer before offering a service, OR being the org they are, they could suddenly take the market by storm in a matter of weeks.

I'm likely going with BT, only viable option.

Any ISP offering BT Wholesale based products should be able to offer Fibre (FTTC/FTTP)

at, you have BT Infinity, Plus.net (in trial atm but going mainstream in the new year) and possibly one or two others.

I currently have fibre with plusnet and am getting 30Mb

This whole business has always seemed immensely unfair on BT. They have to do all the hard work, then other ISPs can just come in and take advantage of it?

I can understand the fact that unbundling gives competition which is good for the consumer, and I appreciate that BT Plc got given the country's public network during privatisation. It's no wonder BT are so expensive if they have to pay for all this.

I know probably nobody here cares about the plight of BT shareholders, and I've also just realised this is an old thread which shouldn't have been resurrected, but it's just something that's always puzzled me.

What hard work is that exactly, the UK's telephone infrastructure was buit by companies such as STC, GEC, Marconi, Plessey etc, who had to fight continuous battles with BT because they always insisted on there own versions of standard products. you can only marvel at the number of racks rejected for being the wrong shade of light straw.

Deviating slightly and possibly going off topic a bit but Sky have some tempting deals for Sky, broadband, telephone etc. Any advice on this?
I have never had Sky so am tempted to get the basic package, my broadband is with Demon whom I am not that happy with and telephone is BT which I am quite satisfied with but no loyalty.

GEC Marconi(GEC) and Plessey are dead, and they only sold goods to the then GPO Telephones

They don't give it to other ISP's, they charge them plenty.

BT are a shambles of a company.
