Oh yes definitely let them meet on neutral ground when you first intro them. My goodness, it doesnt seem five minutes since you got Bruce! and now you are getting a pack

Yes I know
But the way I saw it when I read this post is, we want a second dog, we have a good, loving, stable home to offer, and here is another dog in need of help through no fault of her own... only a 25 minute drive away too.
Anyway we don't have our hopes up or anything, not getting carried away. We'll just see how it goes and maybe we'll be right for this girl and she for us, but maybe it won't be :undecided"Your life is what your thoughts make it"

Hi EmptyPockets, have literally got in 5 minutes ago and rushed to see what happened today (OH is moaning about putting shopping away as we speak
).
Am so glad to see that you have spoken to E & her grandson and that things are looking hopeful for all parties. I am confident that both of you are going into this "doggy date" with your eyes wide open and with no pressure on either party.
I shall be glued to the computer on Sunday night with my fingers crossed :rotfl::rotfl:. I'm so excited :j!!!"Men are generally more careful of the breed(ing) of their horses and dogs than of their children" - William Penn 1644-1718

I have spoken again with the lady regarding this dog, and have also spoken to her son who actually owns the dog. We have arranged that he will come to visit our house on Sunday morning, bringing the little lass with him. We'll go for a walk with both dogs and see how they get on, before returning together to our house for a cuppa and a chat. We thought this would be best for both dogs but especially for ours, to meet the potential newcomer outside, and then to bring them into the home/garden together... Any thoughts on that would definitely be appreciated.
Ben_NESSR - I gave the lady your number and read your post over the phone to her, and she said she will give you a call if it does not work out right for us to offer her a forever home.
Our boy Bruce is booked in to be neutered next week (this would have been done regardless of what happens with this girl as we were intending on getting a second dog anyway).
Will let you know (if you're interested! lol) how it all goes...

That's absolutely fine,
Good luck for tomorrow

It didn't go as well as we'd hoped

We hadn't been informed, until the couple turned up on the doorstep unfortunately, that the Springer girl 'is not very good with some dogs' (her owners exact words)! So of course, we were dubious straight away! lol.
We brought our Bruce out on his lead and all headed onto the green next to our house. Little Bruce was so excited to see a playmate and was eager to say hello and play with her, but unfortunately she decided from the very first glance at Bruce that she didn't want to be friends. We held him close by to give her her own space and not make her feel crowded by us, but she wasn't having any of it. She was curling her lips up, showing her teeth and snarling at Bruce, barking loudly at him and all her hackles were raised.
Nothing we tried seemed to calm her down, and whenever the two dogs got close enough she would snarl and snap at Bruce's face.
So, I'm sorry to say, we will not be her new forever home. It's a real shame as she is a beautiful, beautiful dog, and she was so friendly towards my husband and me.
Ben, I reiterated to her owners what you have said in your posts and he thanked us for that so maybe you will get a call from them.
On the plus side, we were so proud of Bruce and the way he reacted (or didn't react!) to a dog showing him aggression. This is the second time, since we've had him, that he's encountered a dog who wanted to eat him  and both times, he never ever snapped, growled or barked. He just stands there wagging his tail with a happy expression as if to say 'it's ok, let's go have fun!!'"Your life is what your thoughts make it"

Oh EmptyPockets, I'm so sad and disappointed for you (and the little Springer)
:(. I had really thought this would work out.
I am also a bit cross that they failed to mention that she could be iffy with some dogs - they certainly gave me the impression that she was fine. Lets hope that now Ben will be able to help her find a new home.
Well done to Bruce for behaving so well - he sounds like a little star! I'm sure he enjoyed his "dogy date" regardless

oh, what a shame - like Frugalista, I was hopeful - still, you never know how these things will work out till you try, so well done for trying!!
Lets hope Ben at NESSR will be able to match her with just the right home!0 -

Absolutely. I really hope they find her a good home. They were a nice couple who do sound like they are trying to do their best for her. Apparently the dog, Pippa, belongs to their 18 year old son and as he has reached his late teens he is not paying any attention to her or taking care of her. They said that they're alway trying to get him to take her for walks but he isn't interested. Such a shame for the poor girl
