Shelters/rescues in Notts

Can anyone give me contact details of reputable rescues in the Notts area (and perhaps PM me names of ones to avoid
).
Just had a phone call wanting to rehome a 5 yr old liver & white English springer b1tch. She is apparently house trained, well behaved, good natured and good with kids. They think she is spayed (usual story, friend of a friend, etc).
It appears that a change in circumstances means that she is left on her own for around 9 hours a day - so they want to rehome her
. From my enquires it seems that dog walkers/kennel in the garden, etc, is not viable - Personally, I suspect they think it is easier all round just to get rid
.
Thanks in advance

Jerry Green at Blidworth are ok (01623 792 886) - havent dealt with them for a while, but they were the only people prepared to help when I found a poorly old lurcher staggering around in the road. I think they are quite careful with homechecks etc.
Mayflower at Bawtry are fantastic (Tel: 01302 711330 ) , if they dont mind a bit of a drive (depending on which end of the county they are at) - underfloor heating in the kennels and lovely staff!
I dont know Babworth (http://www.barkonline.co.uk/2.html) personally, but I think they are ok from what I have heard - I will pm you too0 -
Not quite Notts I know but I'd try Wood Green in Cambridgeshire. I & others have also listed various others in the Dorset old tyme bulldog thread which you could try.
As to who to avoid I'm personally of the opinion that you'll get wide ranging & contradictory views according to who you ask. Not everyone involved in dog rescue is an altruist / animal lover in my view
Good luck0 -

Thanks to everyone who has posted.
I have just spoken to the lady and they are trying the breed rescues in the first instance and will only try the local rescues if the breed rescues can't help.
In the meantime, does anyone know of anyone who wants a springer spaniel???"Men are generally more careful of the breed(ing) of their horses and dogs than of their children" - William Penn 1644-1718

My husband and I may be able to help...
Is the dog still currently with her owners in Nottingham? And would they be willing to travel to Derby (25 minute drive) with her to meet our current dog and see how the two interact..? I ask this as I presume/would hope they would want to see us and the house we live in...
My husband and I have been intending to offer a home to a second doggy, and rather than a puppy we are eager to help out a dog that needs a new home... If you want to PM me it's up to you but the offer is there for an initial meeting and see how it all goes... I grew up with a Springer so do have experience of the breed.
... BTW, we would require proof that she is spayed as we have a dog who is, for the time-being, not neutered."Your life is what your thoughts make it"

R.i.P our beautiful girl Suki. We'll love and miss you forever

Good morning,
I volunteer on behalf of Northern English Springer Spaniel Rescue (NESSR).
Would you be kind enough to give us a call on 01670 760346 as we may be able to help.
Many thanks,
Ben Sumner.0 -
Please Hethmar, tell her to stop! They don't give a sod.
Are you referring to Halfway Home Dog Rescue based at Collingham?

I am extremely concerned about this post; perhaps you could provide further details for clarification before you try and taint the name of a good, decent, hardworking rescue organisation.0
