Yes, perhaps you have the wrong one in mind Mutter? Sister says they seem bona fide when she has visited to take food and so on? Not been there myself.

    Good morning,

I volunteer on behalf of Northern English Springer Spaniel Rescue (NESSR).

Would you be kind enough to give us a call on 01670 760346 as we may be able to help.

    Many thanks,

    Ben Sumner.

    Hi Ben,

    That's almost 200 miles, a four-hour car journey - yikes!

But I have spoken briefly with the lady who has this dog and I am expecting a call from her again this afternoon to try and arrange a meeting between us and both of our dogs. I will happily pass on your number and the rescue details (I'm presuming she hasn't seen this thread), as she may decide that you would be a better option for the dog.

    Best wishes,

    EP

  • Thanks for that,

We actually have volunteers country-wide and have arranged transport runs in the past.

Also, dogs that come in to us are fostered by members of the team in their own homes rather than kennels. We find that it is the best way of assessing the dogs and of course they are usually much happier!

If you have any further queries, please ask.

The option is there if required :)

    Thanks again,
    Ben.

Thanks Ben, that sounds really good and when the lady phones me later I will definitely pass it all on to her.

Are you referring to Halfway Home Dog Rescue based at Collingham?

    http://www.halfwayhome-dogrescue.org/

I am extremely concerned about this post; perhaps you could provide further details for clarification before you try and taint the name of a good, decent, hardworking rescue organisation.
When I contacted them to do a home check for my dog, a donation to be made of course, they didn't even have the decency to reply. I used to donate too, but not anymore. It meant he was stressed out in a kennel for longer than necessary whilst I searched for someone else. That's my reason.
Breed club rescue is so much better as they tend to have a waiting list, rather than advertise the dogs where they could be picked on a whim. I know that's the ideal and not all rescues due to sheer numbers can operate that way. However, a dog in need is just that, shouldn't make any difference that it's coming from another rescue.

May be the request never got through to the right people Mutter? Home checks tend to be done by volunteers. Sometimes there is simply no one available to do it. Same with transport runs, the pound rescue Im involved with is absolutely desperate for people to transport the dogs from the pound to a rescue when a place is found to save them. Some of the volunteers do 600 miles a week driving to save the dogs.

    Just a very quick update:

I have spoken again with the lady regarding this dog, and have also spoken to her son who actually owns the dog. We have arranged that he will come to visit our house on Sunday morning, bringing the little lass with him. We'll go for a walk with both dogs and see how they get on, before returning together to our house for a cuppa and a chat. We thought this would be best for both dogs but especially for ours, to meet the potential newcomer outside, and then to bring them into the home/garden together... Any thoughts on that would definitely be appreciated.

Ben_NESSR - I gave the lady your number and read your post over the phone to her, and she said she will give you a call if it does not work out right for us to offer her a forever home.

Our boy Bruce is booked in to be neutered next week (this would have been done regardless of what happens with this girl as we were intending on getting a second dog anyway).

Will let you know (if you're interested! lol) how it all goes...
