Car Tax

  • Lots of green-eyed idiots here. VED is a stupid, regressive tax that does nothing but raise money based on people's prejudices. An X3 doing 5,000 miles annually will kick out a hell of a lot less co2 than a Fiesta doing 15,000 miles annually.

Shhhhh, you're not supposed to say things like that ;)

Only if you believe the global warming theory ;)

I was just playing the devils advocate :p

I agree, it's total non-sense... In fact they don't even call it global warming any more because people started their brains and realised it wasn't actually getting warmer.

    It's now "climate change".

    Oooooo small car syndrome?

Not at all, I wouldn't call my car small by any stretch :D

4x4's have their place, but lets face facts, the BMW's aren't bought because they're 4x4, they're bought so that the owner can feel superior to everyone else, because on the inside their greatest fear is being "average working class".

Aye, you could be right. I'm no lover of BMWs either (or their drivers).

I drive a 4x4 because I use it as a 4x4 (Green laning and Response work) and I like it.

I detest the way the Government penalises people for what they drive though. They'd have us all in boring little boxes like the Toyota Pious if they had their way.

Another school of thought could be that the Gov are using the "green" issue as a way of extracting more dosh from the motorist but that's a whole different debate!

The answer to the question is an X3 pays more VED because the Gov decided it should!

Global warming theory aside, the "crap" statement is correct, they still chuck out loads of it!:D

Does anyone know why an X3 car has a yearly road fund licence fee of over four hundred pounds yet buses and artic lorries pay £160??

Use the bleedin bus then :)

These are the same type of people who I use to get annoyed with when asking what mpg they will get from a 3.0i engine...

    lol

Because they kick out tons of crap into the environment?

    I have no sympathy :D

Wannabe a wannabe, then pay the price or get a smaller car (they park on the kerb outside the school just as well).

People like other people to think they are well off and can afford these things, but their credit cards swell under the pressure. Gotta make sure you can afford to run a car before you buy it.

    (??)

I'm sorry but I wouldn't think someone in an X3 was 'well off'. It's hardly the high life.

Hope some here don't bite their tongues they'll poison themselves.

Why does a persons car choice cause such hostility, is it the old green eyed monster again, does the missus force you to drive a little tin box and is it affecting your libido's?

Or does the proletariat believe that a citizen daring to be an individual should seek permission from the people's court and justify their bourgeois behaviour.

For goodness sake get over your petty envious selves.

Having driven various X3's the 3.0d version especially is quite a pocket rocket, and the 4WD makes for safe full power progress in all weathers that would see FWD cars torque steering and wheelspinning to nowhere fast.
I wouldn't own one meself but that's a personal thing, i daresay the average X3 owner wouldn't want my pick up either.

The motorist is about the only cash cow left, the great leveller will be the inevitable road pricing scam, VED is just a side issue and all anyone can do is try to beat the system and keep away from the highest groups, not always easy when the goal posts shift around.
