Thanks Chev :) DS2 has a heavy woollen camping blanket lined with fleece - would double up to insulate a medium-sized elephant, I wonder if he'd miss it? :D

Actually I had a closer look at the door in question and realised the glass is very loose at the bottom so first step will be to secure it. The on to door curtains - I'll keep my eyes open at charity shops/Freecycle, that's a very good idea.

Today: we were six for dinner in the end and I catered for about ten (not good at Maths) so there is enough left to feed us tomorrow and after my qualms it was actually quite a decent dinner. I was up till nearly two, as I went into night worker mode and got a few jobs done, but then of course that made us late for Church this morning. :( It was Harvest Festival and the donated food goes to local people through the Debt Counselling Centre. In an apparently affluent area like this, there is a lot of hidden hardship so it's good there is help available.

This afternoon I made cakes and had a walk on the moors. :) It's so mild again and I am determined to enjoy it!

congratulations to your DD for passing her driving test that's fab.

I made a lovely set of curtains for my old patio door from two supersoft fleecy blankets. the blankets themselves cost about a fiver each and then about a quid for the header tap and we were sorted, they were really light but because of their fabric they really cut out the drafts.

Wow. that's a very good price for curtains LT! I bet they are a lot easier and cheaper to care for than ready-made curtains, too. The pair we have in mind are very pretty but I am thinking I would have to take them to the dry cleaner's from time to time as well so I didn't shrink them. That's presuming they fit in the washing machine!

yep they're great for washing and they seem to dry really quickly as well. i have to admit though that i flatly refuse to take curtains to the dry cleaners, all of mine have been washed in the machine and, touch wood, they have been perfectly fine afterwards.

Generally speaking mine have been fine as well but one pair doesn't somehow quite match any more and I think it might be the exception. If we end up paying out, I don't want to take risks!

I know it's a big expense but if we're careful we can afford it and it would make a big difference to the hall. It's the back door but visible as guests come in and of course they will be so awed by the fab curtain that they won't notice the enormous coat rack to one side and the chair full of bags, books and gym kit on the other, not to mention the shoes that never made it to the shoe rack or the muddy door mat. :)

Amazing, the power of a curtain. :D

(I forgot - it also distracts from the cobwebs above and the dodgy paintwork on the ceiling).

Plan for today (do I need one? Day off and all? Answer is yes, or I won't do anything with it and end up feeling guilty):

    [STRIKE]Have another cup of coffee.[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Finish shopping list[/STRIKE] - this is getting a bit big already, we are getting low on things and if they need replacing before the week is out I don't want to be running out of money and doing without, IYSWIM)
prep both lots of study and look out next book
    Clean out the poor goldfish
Look out documents needed by work tomorrow
    update Mum's accounts
Fax documents as per phone call
    piano practice
    [STRIKE]more laundry[/STRIKE]
look into new bonus card scheme from work
    rescue tender plants from garden

Will add more if and when I think of them.

    Done so far:

    sorted a few papers
    one load of washing
cancelled lesson tomorrow (saves £10 and means I won't be late for a meeting).

my front door curtain has to do all the things that you need your curtains to do aswell, and it's not so bad at detracting from the whole mess most of the time. It is fab fabric though - deep red with a gold elephant stitched through it. I lurves elephants and was desparate to find a room i could use that fabric in and then i found it :)

Actually that sounds gorgeous and could look beautiful in our hall! The fabric we had in mind is ivory (the colour you know, not the heffalump) with red and gold. :)

I think any guests would adore the elephants if we had some, and hopefully not notice themselves falling over stray shoes and being avalanched by a heap of backpacks.
