How lovely to have a Sunday at home - though I did get a text at lunchtime to ask if I could cover a shift! However as it was several hours old (DS told me he heard my phone go off during church but I missed it!) the shift had already started so I sent an apologetic message back.
Got home to find DD feeling very unwell. She went to the doctors the other day and has some medicine but it didn't seem to help much. Long story short, she went into A&E and was prescribed something else, came home and fell asleep and this evening was back to normal. She needs some tests done to see whether it's a bad reaction to something she's eaten.
A good example of the old rule that if kids are going to be ill, it will be at some time when the docor and chemist are hard to get hold of! This was a mild case of that as the queue at A&E wasn't bad and the chemist was still open, even though it's Sunday.
I had a long visit to mum so she seems fairly happy with that and today was a good day for her: hearing most things and 'with it' mentally. She has her new hearing aids and refuses to use them but at least she has them! She also remembered my sister had visited during the week.
School restarts tomorrow. How I used to hate that! Kids seem relaxed - too relaxed, as DS has been trying on uniform and found some is outgrown. At least he has enough to be going in.
Before you ask why we didn't check these earlier - DH and I have been nagging but DS insisted it was all under control. Don't think he realises how much he has grown. He's 15. Need I say more?
A quiet day tomorrow - I must do something useful with it.

Happy 5th of September.
Hovel Lady's birthday so I have the party in my diary for 2pm.
Other than that it has to be a bit of a self-starter of a day, and it's grey with a spot of rain, the kids are back at school (well, those who are still at school have gone), the house is quiet though DD says she'll be back in an hour. you would never guess today how much pain she was in yesterday, I'm hoping the medicine was successful and not that the cause has randomly gone away (as before) only to come back just as randomly. I will have to get used to having her around as she studies very close to home, which is nice as I've not seen much of her all summer but I'm not good at getting on with jobs when there's someone around so I think a bit of self-discipline is called for. (All said in one breath).
Now where to start today? I have the Housekeeping money and got out the cash for DD's and DS2's allowances and my piano lesson at the same time. As a resulting job I have to stop the SO from the bank to DS's account for the old amount - but at least they are being 'paid' fairly now, not as the result of two different systems as before.
I have noticed lots of small sorting and tidying jobs in the kitchen to make a start on, and if the weather fairs up there is a spot of painting to do outside. Other than that, usual laundry etc. and er... actually getting myself up and ready to face the day.Homegroup starts again tonight so there are somethings to sort for that which is important, and also some papers and buying to do for Mum.
Wouldn't it be nice if I could just have an onslaught for a day and get all the 'frog' jobs done for the term? I guess making a start is better thasn not doing any and having them all hanging over me in this week when I don't have any rota-ed work, just plenty to do.
There is a list in the offing:
shower done
pay in Mum's cheque bank was shut by the time I got there
order some of the various things I've said I'd get for her has taken 2.5 hours so far but at least some of them are done!
do online banking stuff done
see if greengages are ready
piano practice
clean out fridge
feed tomatoes
clean windowsills ready for bringing in plants
clean out fish
buy pond weed for fish shop shut by the time I got there
sort out bread bin
do things for homegroup change of plan - had cake to eat instead!
sort out packets in larder - too much stuffed in there
check Clubcard points
do a bit more decluttering
get autumn clothes out of loft(where did my summer go?!
)
Text C regarding visit done
Order G's present
Decide on present for Dneice - money I think!
Get shopping done
top up phone done
Take DS to appointment done
By the way Something has been eating our only ripe tomato! This is not what's supposed to happen, though I have rescued the remainder of it.Does anyone actually gain anything with this whole home-grown food malarky? Do I just live too far north for tomatoes to do well, or does my gross negligence of the plants have anything to do with lack of results?
Must stop procrastinating and engaging in favourite displacement activity (lists!) and go and do something...Miggy

It's cold here... maybe that's because I've been sitting down doing Mum's shopping - hate setting up accounts and some are easier to do than others.
Still haven't done one particular should-be-straightforward order, I wonder if I can do it in 15 minutes? If I gve myself a cup of coffee to spur me on...
The computer chair is cold - I am going to treat myself to a nice padded cushion and cover it in thick fleece and I don't care if DS, DH et al don't like it - I want to be warm! (And it will be MS as it will keep me warm and so I won't want to turn the heating up).Miggy

The order took 35 mins but at least it's done - two of others I will have to try again as registration doesn't seem to have gone through.
Not now, though. Not now.
Needs to buy dinner.Miggy

I have a balcony full of tomatoes and they are refusing to go red. Wonder at what point I give up and make them into chutney! Is this cos I'm 25 miles closer to the Arctic Circle than you Migs?

ETA: lots of problems with the Internet today, grr.
Sorry, here are the boring lists again. I'm trying to keep them in one post a day (!) so will update this one when I'm ready.
Spent £7 on top of housekeeping yesterday for a leaving gift (don't begrudge it in the least, she will be missed, just noting I spent it).
That also lead to far too many calories... my weight is up a pound today! Hopefully that will even out.
First thing this morning the weather was wet and windy - now it's sunny and breezy and I would rather like to be out in the garden but I need to get down to see Mum first. Washing is in the machine and will be rady before I get back. DD is out having a driving lesson. Everyone else is at work/school...

I've managed a few jobs including putting the animals out in their run but now I'm concerned about the guinea pig who doesn't seem 'right' although she's lively and eating. Her fur was in a mess (I think she's the wrong shape to clean her back end!) so I've pet-shampooed her up and put her back outside. Now I'm wondering whether to take her to the vet this evening. Will see how she is - it could be something and nothing.
I shouldn't have pets - I go down as soon as I think they might be poorly.
The wind is still gusty - I found the peg bag upside down in some plants. If the rain holds off I will have dry washing soon enough. Now off to Mum's at long last.

I've just been out to feed the animals and the GP seems quite perky - maybe I'm worrying about nothing? It's still blustery and mild but because of the wind I've covered the hutch for the night.
I've been tidying up some of my larger houseplants and wishing I had more space for them. None of them is huge but space is limited, especially space with good light. I've thrown out a cutting that failed to thrive, a cactus that died from the base and a miniature fuschia that didn't survive the summer - and I need to rehome a few Jade plant cuttings which can probably go to a charity shop. Even then I will strugle for space for all my plants, but they can't stay out all winter and live.
On an MS front - spent nearly £9 on groceries, oh dear. DD came in from work (a slightly upmarket supermarket) and said she may not be able to get so many fantastic bargains in the future as they're changing how they mark foods down at the end of the day in order to sell more. She said she was glad, as the other day she had been asked to bin the unsold food (staff can buy before this stage but sometimes there are big over-buys and staff can't use it all) and it really upset her.
I hate the waste so I'm pleased they are trying to reduce it.
Still feeling a bit low but I realised I missed my vitamins for a few days when I was last at work. I'd been wondering why it hadn't affected me, but now I think it has. I may not have felt that effect at once as I had lots of fresh fruit so my vit C levels would have been better than normal on those days.
Very tired tonight. The list is getting done, though there are new things on it. Tomorrow is fairly full but maybe on Thursday I can treat myself to a day out. Here's hoping it's fine!Miggy
