Funnily I'd never really listened to her till she died. I just assumed she wasn't my kind of music. I think I missed a legend.

It wasn't particularly my kind of music either, i must admit.

Amy Winehouse - Fantastic voice, deeply flawed personality. Unfortunately highly destructive.

Its funny how we all perceive differently. Deeply flawed personality? I prefer to say a insanity is a side effect of genius.

I'm thinking about that one... :) (Don't worry, no list will ensue).

I found a (highly simplified) version of Chopin's Prelude, Op. 28 No 7 in a music book yesterday. Even DH (who IS musical) said I can play that again!

P.S. Just listened to it on YouTube - maybe i'm not so far from the finished performance as I'd thought! :D Only... why isn't there more of it?!

I foundthis post from a year or so ago and I'm updating as some bits have changed:

I work 21 hours at a fairly low-paid job. I work 21 hours as nights, with variable opportunities for extra hours. Usually this doesn't amount to much though July 2011 is an aexception (pay due end of August). On the lookout for other work but this is restricted by my not driving and the area I live in. Can't afford to learn to drive yet.

DH is the main breadwinner His job will come to an end some time before April 2012 - jobs are being rejigged where he works and whatever the new options are they will be thrown open for all existing employees to apply. If he gets made redundant there will be a payment as he's been working there a long time. There are no other employers in our area using his specialism.

DS1 works, pays us a contribution very roughly equal to his costs (not rent), runs his own life and comes here for meals and showers!

DD currently working part time, and studying full time. £10 a week from us.

DS2 at school. Has a smallish allowance from us.

Other income... not much. DH, DD and I all ebay things from time to time but only DH makes countable money and then not so much. Bless him I think a lot of it goes in the holiday fund.

And on a completely different note:

I discovered I am hoarding onions! I often buy an extra one because we use them a lot and it's better to have at least a spare one around. They live in a darkened bag so I don't spend time gazing at them, hence ignorance.

Spare one? Spare eight! Ha! Also red cabbage, white cabbage (ancient), two lots of celery...

I'm going to perk up the celery in cold water and make celery soup tomorrow.

    Off to buy some non-onions.

Well done miggy. 3 #'s too. Actually, this looks more like hash than a sharp. :rotfl: I'll be round to yours for a recital later, then?

This made me stop to think, because in real terms , its probably at least 20 years since i've played a joanna. I couldn't get my joanna into my house, the day i moved in, so i sold it there and then, ( or should i say gave it away ). Maybe one of the mistakes i made in my life.

Which led me to wonder if i could still play play the joanna and the prelude, ( it was my first instrument ). Apart from the fact my hands are stiff and arthiritic, would i be able to play this too? I suppose the answer i came to was yes, after a fashion, because you don't forget how to do something you were trained to do, in fact, yes, i could sight read it. PAH

I'm afraid my version has been transposed into F major, though I could have managed three #s... or three hashes, even easier. :D Let me get a bit of practice in and recital it shall be. :)

Some of the YouTube versions are very very slow - so it could be a good one for getting your hands back in practice. Was disposing of the piano an act of rebellion, I wonder? If you get the chance to play, give yourself some leeway because if you're anything like me, your head will rmember patchily and your hands will take a while to muscle up.

You must have a very good memory to know what key it's in! I can't always remember from one movement to another. :o

We could have a duet? You play in f major and i'll play in a major, one b and 3 #'s :D

That should be an interesting combination, ( though not necessarily melodic ). :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Rebellion. Me a rebel? Rebel without a cause.

I don't think i'm up to Schumann fantasie impromptu, for sure. :rotfl:

I've always fancied playing an organ though, ( that is a church organ ). Imagine playing Widor toccata, or the ultimate, St Saens Organ Symohony on an organ. I've always fancied blasting that out on the real thing :rotfl:

ps i've spent many hundreds of hours, in the past, practising scales, arpeggio's......................

    Need i say more?

Actually, probably thousands of hours............................... PAH

This doesn't mean to say i don't admire your achievement :A

Have you seen the programme on itv? is it born to shine? Young people are teaching err mature celebrities to perform in various ways, in a very short space of time. There was a celeb, ( i can't remember who ) :rotfl: who won the first round. No mean feat, learning to play a piece on the joanna, when youv'e never played before.
