I know plodding is a term of ' endearment ' as it were, a term of encouragement, but plodding always conjures this picture in my head, of somewhere i definitely don't want to be.

Maybe i've always been a doer, an innovater, and not a plodder.

Sorry beanie, i love you, really x

I see what you mean, Ani.

Perhaps plodding is what we resort to when our wings ain't working, it still gets us somewhere. Frustrating for high flyers, though, which reminds me - did you know there's a shortage of mud this year?! The RSPB has appealed for people to make mud for those birds which need it for nesting.

Now I remember what I need to do this afternoon. :D

Visit to dentist successfully accomplished this morning - cost £70 but as Mum's cheque went into savings, we have the money for it. Must remember to transfer it.

I also got myself and mum a Superdrug card each, which I need to register online. They are mirrors - pretty, and pretty clever too, as the idea is the customer can look in them to check how the cosmetics look, I assume.

Mine already has 6 points on it - well some of that was getting four shower gels for £2.99, which is pretty good, even if not as cheap as Tesco's 10p one.

This seems to be a post with Significant Points in it. DH and I have started our cash system again. We have £50 each for household spends, with the option of taking another £10 out if necessary. I'm going to have to do some careful planning if I'm not to run into difficulties as it's Tuesday and there's only £23.54 left in mine! However, I had already paid for the Approved Food order so that will help me out.

    Approved Food order as follows:
Big jar of Ainsley Harriott risotto (kids decided it smells foul but when I read the label it's got cheese in, so I dared to try some for lunch and it's not bad).
2 big jars of A.H. Citrus cous cous, which is DH's favourite with fish.
2 jar mixed olives (with stones in - oops)
6 sachets spicy chicken soup (try saying that after a drink or two)
    4 shortcrust pastry mixes
6 tomato cous couses (had 2 already)
    2 bottles Caesar salad dressing
    2 jars custard mix
Jar of Frank Cooper marmalade (for a pound, not bad)
    6 lemon and herb lentils
2 red pepper and chilli spelt
3 blue cheese and broccoli risotto
    2 wild mushroom polenta
6 A.H. spicy cous cous - another of DH's favourites
    4 cheese and tomato pastas
    2 mediterranean bulgar wheats
5 tomato and olive bulgar wheats
plus assorted sweets that DS is to pay me for.

So tonight's tea will be hm chicken pie with one of the above. The chicken is in the freezer, gravy mix already in cupboard, peas in freezer. I intended not to go to the shops again today but the milk is getting low so I might, and combine it with an arrand for mum

And on another tack: I've noticed I'm taking an interest in my plants again which I haven't done for perhaps 15 months. There seemed no point before as I couldn't be sure I'd have time to tend them.
I seem to be getting my green fingers back which shows how far I've come since mum went into care.

    Booo

Ok. So its 2 o'clock, and this is the first occasion in several months when the work does'nt have to be completed on set date. I was going to be very good and make a start, but after messing around, i feel so tired, i can't be bothered to start work now. I just feel like laying on the sofa and vegetating. Decision made. In actual fact, probably fall asleep. I know i'll regret this decision, when i' m not able to complete the work on time. :o Anyway, i'm on an early, tomorrow morning, and this makes the running total around one day off a month at the moment.

    So where was i?

That store cupboard looks very healthy. I'll be round for tea?

I thought you were joking about the mud, but you're not, or more precisely, a shortage of insects, thereof. What is the world coming to, if the house sparrow could become an extinct species, too.

House plants - bit of a sore point with me. I threw them all away, along with precious swiss cheese plant, in a moment of madness. I seem to be able to make anything grow. Ah well

    Hopefully getting some well-earned rest.

Get planting - you could make a few bob. Pm me your address or the address of someone who'll pass something on to you and I'll send you some little jade plants as a starter pack. You may know this one by another name? I once sold some in the office and someone bought one because of this other name- she was convinced it worked! I'm afraid I'm not so sure!

Sorry about the cheese plant though. :( One day you can have another one. Meantime offer your services as a plant-sitter - another few bob in it if the main income gets thin. Anyway you would enjoy it. :)

    Mud made... :D

Not yet inundated with house martins but it's there if they want it.

Food-wise, we're still in budget (I can hear you all saying 'I should hope so, too, you're only half way through the week!'). However, I need to apply my mind to it if I'm not to overspend. Meals over the last couple of days weren't quite as planned as DS offered to cook on Tuesday and I couldn't very well refuse now, could I? He made a pasta with a tomato and bacon sauce, and very nice it was too. The chicken pie was therefore made today though I had to be a bit disciplined not to go and buy one as by five o'clock I had been on the go all day and was more inclined to sit down. I used two of the pastry mixes (I know, I know, make my own... but pastry isn't yet on my strong points list, unless I can count the ability to eat it). I thought this would make too much and I was right so half is rolled into shape and frozen in the hope it won't get lost or broken before I remember to use it. I also used a bag of chopped chicken from the freezer and haven't admitted to the family that it had been in there since Christmas 2009! Well, gravy covers the freezer burn... also used a couple of the bulgar wheat mixes which were okay but not brilliant. Still, a nice change.
While diving into the freezer for the chicken I realised I've neglected that freezer recently (there are two and this one is less accessible) so tomorrow I shall have an explore and see if I can make some amazing concoction while spending minimally. This might have to wait till the day after if it looks like taking a while to cook, though, as we are in exam season and DD has her Drama exam (performance) in the evening. Can't risk missing that! The one we went to previously was a very good evening: quality drama and some talented students and now with a year or so more experience they are likely to be even better.

Still haven't found a recipe calling for six jellies, a jar of anchovies and chocolate Ready Brek.

I am a complete loon, fancy staying up so late when I don't have to. What's wrong with me?

    I wish I knew.

Anyway, inspired by the lovely Wordsmith, I have resolved this day to list some people I need to get back in touch with and ACTUALLY DO IT.
Wordsmith's right - make the most of your friends. :)

List off the top of my head:

    Ring Pat
Email Dee and give her my mobile number
    Arrange coffee with Lynda
    Arrange coffee with Jill

Not sure how to go about getting back in touch with Kate? Janet? Saw Mildred yesterday in the middle of the High Street, stopped and had a lovely chat. She's invited me over some time and I think I could possibly join them the week after next for sandwiches and chat (we used to go to a home group from church together: we all met over bring-our-own lunch before a fellowship and study time and I have a standing invitation to go back... would be nice. I had to stop as I was just doing too much that day).

There are others, just not ready on the tip of my tongue as I've neglected them too long. :(
