I think you are going to need one of these (((((( hug )))))) :grouphug:, when she eventually goes.

Yes probably! Never mind, we had a good day's hunting today - out to the shops for heaps of necessaries for student life: great fun! Pretty MS too though I say it myself. ;)

Tried to post earlier and got chucked off... here goes again.

Pouring down and very gloomy today, to the extent that I need the light on. Happy August, hey?

Tons of washing to do - first load done and drier put on for dry-ables (:( ) though jeans are on the airer and socks are on the sock-thingy and there's a jumper drying on the ironing board.

Plans for today will have to be re-jigged but I still intend to visit Mum provided the rain eases later.

I've nearly finished repainting a bookcase for Mum and I'm bleaching tea stains out of mugs while no one else is around to grab said mugs for a drink. Other than that, not sure what I'll get done.

I'm glad it cleared up yesterday afternoon because it's pouring again today - and another load is in the washer.

Today isn't going to be MS: the BT man has just been to see why people can't hear us on the phone and apparently the phone is dud. There will be absolutely no grieving over that as this phone has taken so many nightmare phone calls. I'm going to see if I can find something where we can choose the ring tone so the replacement doesn't sound the same.

At the same time I'm going to look for a new hair dryer because apparently the boys will 'need' one when DD takes the house one to Uni. I have more hair than anyone here and I don't feel the need of a dryer but hey! at least I get to choose and will see if I can get another cheapish energy-saving one because this one is very good. If the boys don't like it, there are always towels. :D

Talking of which... going to Boyes (cheap department store for those not in this region) when it stops raining, to look for tea towels for DD. Bought her a few staple foods yesterday too. Her money doesn't come through straight away so we will also be paying the first instalment of her rent and letting her pay us back, or else it looks as though she will be on a more expensive tariff. It seems as though those who can't pay up front get charged another £100 for the privilege of instalments, which if I have understood it right is so unfair. Yet another instance where the 'haves' are instantly charged less than the 'have nots'.

Course i remember Boyes. I used to walk past it everyday, on the way to school. :rotfl: It was still there, at the last count. Sadly, the school isn't. :o Ah, the store still is, though. :D

Oops... sorry. :o Seen plenty of kettles today too, in all sorts of loverly colours.

We now have not one but two new phones - a bit of an indulgence but I'm tired of trying to find a ringing phone that someone's left at the other end of the house, and there was a good offer on for two. We also have a new ring tone.

The new hair dryer seems to be accepted and wasn't expensive either, though neither item is regular expenditure, so they eat a bit into savings - though that's what savings are for, I suppose. Haven't really got used to having money to spend on things yet: not completely used, anyway. I've always had to scrimp. :)

I bumped into DD on her way back from work so we did some more of her shopping. Went to Boyes (did not see Ani in school uniform sauntering past) and bought some kitchen stuff including a couple of bowls which weren't on the list. ;) It was all quite tiring so we went to C0sta and revived ourselves (okay, so I am getting somewhat used to having a bit of money :o) then finished our shopping for the day. Coming out of one shop I thought we seemed to have spent more than I expected so I checked my receipt and a £1.99 item had gone through at £13.99! It was refunded immediately - the wrong bar code or something. Glad I listened to myself about that.

I'm now tired... DH has some medical test tomorrow (routine due to a condition he has) and I'm going to yet another call-back from the doctor to tell me my cholesterol is too high. I already know that but it was high even when I was vegetarian and I think it's just the way I am. Maybe they'll offer me statins eventually?

Time I made some space in my inbox.

DH has now been sent off to his appointment, mine's not till later and I have to time things so I can go on the way back from Mum's and save a journey... working tonight and don't want to be worn out.

We seem to be inundated with clothes again largely because they never quite got dry outside and were draped all over the lounge to finish off. This morning I've sorted some - there's still a mountain of ironing of course - and a load has gone through the wash and is on the line enjoying the sunshine. I decided on the spur of the moment to sort the shoe racks in the hall, which were manky - 54 pairs of shoes of which 30 belonged to DD! She's now home from her shift and threw out about five pairs which she had worn out. I don't know why she doesn't get them mended while they're still mendable but I suppose cheap shoes are so easy to come by and it could cost almost as much to repair them. There still isn't quite enough room for all of them to sit neatly on the racks but it's quite close.

I don't know if it counts as MS except in an obscure way - if I feel better about my environment I am a little less likely to comfort spend or even comfort eat, and I know those will be a temptation once DD is off on her travels!

Talking of travels, DS1 is going to Florida tomorrow, lucky thing! Mind you I shall then listen to every hurricane warning with my heart in my mouth. :o Not that I'm the worrying type... :D

DH is disgruntled as his procedure will have to be repeated. :( Having had it regularly, he knows what works for him but they didn't listen and didn't get clear results.

I had a cheerful chat with the doctor (he's the sort of person who makes everything cheerful) and am going to try statins. He reckons my cholesterol is just high because it's me and some people are just like that. I'm not saintly in what I eat but I do steer away from animal fats yet my readings are in the sixes. Should be about 4. I'm not starting right away though as I've a couple more nights of work to go and want to be okay if I have side effects.

Did some spending this afternoon but nothing too noteworthy and I managed a couple of pieces of MSing yesterday: polished up my winter boots which have been gathering dust since I lent them to DD a couple of years ago and the uppers started coming loose! Now I've determined that the leather is in good nick, they are in a bag ready to go to the menders. I also salvaged a pair of leather sandals that DD likes but which she's chucking out as worn out. They've been through the washing machine and come out okay so now I'm going to try some DIY repairs on the fabric covering the heels and if I can get anywhere with that I'll get the heels re-done for her -the aim being to teach her about stitches in time saving nine and so forth, though it's possible the heels are too far gone.

I also had a go at mending the spine of an NIV Study Bible which is a chunky tome and the binding was obviously meant for use by people who know how to handle books properly - not like us. :D I've lined the spine with fabric so it's flexible but stronger than it used to be. Why don't we just buy another? Well, apart from it costing money and having been given to me by someone with nice memories, you can never find what you're looking for in a new Bible... things aren't in the right place on the page. :)

That's all for now - off to work again tonight.

I decided I had better start to tackle the assorted courses I am supposed to be doing for work so last night's shift had a couple of hours set aside and a start has duly been made.

There are two online courses but the H&S refresher is inaccessible as the work computer is so slow. I'll have to do that at home and claim the time back. The online Equality and Diversity is going okay. That leaves the long-avoided NVQ which involves old-fashioned looking things up and showing I know about legislation and stuff. Lots of wading through things that involve brain power and concentration and I really can't put it off any longer. :(

The MS bit comes in the pay increment I get when the NVQ is out of the way. It's also a transferable qualification - 'nuff said. ;)

I spent about 40 minutes on the H&S course today - much quicker than I'd thought as there's the option to test yourself before taking each module and if all the answers are right then you don't have to plough through the module itself. This way I've got 12 out of 15 modules out of the way but my knowledge of fire prevention, H&S Law and electrical safety obviously leave something to be desired!

Good to have that much done though as my appraisal's tomorrow and I'll have to admit I still haven't tackled the NVQ.

Buoyed up by that I have begun filing the backlog of Mum's receipts.

In other news, DS2 has made a start on the sixth form, and so far, so good, and I've been a 'lady that ice creams' (as opposed to a lady that lunches). I tried a new flavour and I can't remember its name. Sea something. It tastes rather like peaches, or melon and is orange. Nice, anyway.
