internet explorer 7

found out through a different post in this forum that internet explorer 7 exists. currently i am running version 6. However in majority of cases i use firefox.

why when going through windows/microsoft updates does it not mention IE7 is available?

is it ok to download IE7 or has anyone encountered problems using it etc
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

There is both IE 7 and Firefox 2.0.

Both are in beta, i.e. testing mode. You can download both sets of software, but you will find them probably to be buggy.

What normally happens in beta mode is that people test them and report bugs (and possible fixes) to the company. In people I mean advanced users (and probably not people like us, who are the end users and just normal computer users).

  • I've been using Firefox for a while now, the main reason being its tabbed browsing feature. Fingers crossed, 2.0 seems much more stable so far.

I downloaded the beta IE7 a couple of weeks ago but haven't used it that much so can't comment on its stabilty. Seems to me though that the new features (ie tabbed browsing, anti phishing etc) is just a case of Microsoft playing catch-up with Firefox.

I'll stick with the latter for now while keeping an open mind...

I have downloaded IE 7 Beta version. It is fine up to now (8 days) but take a bit of getting used to, with the slightly different layout.

I've used IE7 for about 4 months now, and have a few bugs to report, although it's been fairly stable. Have to say, I still don't like it though.

Currently using FF 2.0 as well, and having quite a few problems with certain sites.
Betas are fine if you want the 'latest' innovations etc, but be aware that you probably will experience some problems, and the respective companies will appreciate a decent error report if possible. Not for those who like trouble free browsing!

Although IE7 is now in gamma stage I think I'll still wait until the official release before installing.

The Mrs is using IE7 release candidate 1 without any problems, and if she can use it....................
