I last spoke to them in the middle of May and they informed me that they we going to send out the information of my balance and also details for repaying online (apparently they have a dedicated website that you can make overpayments to).
Anyway, when I spoke to them yesterday, I told them I still hadn't received anything, so all the guy said was that he was chase it up and get me a reply as soon as possible. Helpful...not
another thing about student loans ... find out exactly what date it is they take the money off ... if you pay it up say £20 a week for the year and they only take it off your account every april ( say you have been paying the £20 a week since the may of the previous year) then you dont save any interest you still pay the same ... and you loose any interest you could have if you had put the money into a savings account ... crafty people these student loans lot0 -
Hello
Just wanted to pop in and say hi....enjoying the ramblings :rotfl:I do it a lot too, helps to get it all down somtimes.
I def think (personally) that it's good to save and pay off debt - it's all about finding the right balance. For me my paying than saving i.e. I have 40K of debt still to pay off....however to ensure that nothing goes wrong in future I need to save alongside for big expenses and the future to ensure that it's a bright one
Wish you lots of luck on your journey! What pup have you got? x0 -
Thanks for the advice elantan, still waiting to find out exactly what is owed, but I get £26 taken off my wages every month towards the loan too...
Thanks for stopping by choc-addict, was starting to think it was just me and elantan lol :rotfl: We have a german shepherd puppy, I would like to post a picture of her but I don't know how to!

Was hoping that the weather was going to be nice and sunny today (really just hoping for an excuse not to do the ironing!), but although it is nicer than the non stop rain we had yesterday, it isn't great...
Guess a day of housework is on the cards
Currently got the puppy lying fast asleep on my feet while I'm on the laptop
Going to pamper her a bit today as she is going in to the vets tomorrow to get spayed (a nice hefty vets bill to follow ) I feel a bit bad about putting her in for the op but I know it has to be done...
PS - Can anyone tell me how to post images? When I try to insert them in a post it says 'image url' do you have to have an account on one of those image sites somewhere?VSP - £14.76 | Saving for a Deposit0 -
Just found your diary.
Good luck with the ironing. I'm thinking about only wearing paper clothes so that I can just dispose of them without having to do any washing/ironing ever again!!
Keep the diary going. Trust me on this one. I gave it up a few months ago, for a lot of complicated reasons, and I fell off the wagon. Not by much, mind, but enough to get out of the habit of being more careful with my money.
By that, I don't mean being tight and never having fun, but just budgeting better etc. It might seem difficult when you don't have lots of people chirping in with ideas, but it keeps you on track.
It helped me before and it's helping me again! You can do this :T0 -
Thanks for stopping by!
I think I'm going to try and get the other housework done first, then I'll tackle the ironing. It's getting rather grey outside too, so definately no chance of bypassing it!
Will try and get on to the spare bedroom too, but not sure if I'll get that finished today.
I know what you mean about it being hard if people don't help, it's nice to get the odd comment now and again, reassures me that I'm not just waffling to myself!
I'm kind of stuck though, because I don't have loads of debt I feel it should just all be paid asap, but another part of me thinks that because it isn't too much I should carry on as I am paying it monthly and adding extra as and when. I'd love to get some savings built up, you know, for that rainy day - been with OH nearly 3 years and would love him to pop the question one day...
So I'm thinking I will start saving a bit, and see how I go...VSP - £14.76 | Saving for a Deposit0 -
:hello: Hi pennies
You're not just waffling to yourself - I'm reading! You're doing really well on the debt front and seems like you've got the right mind-set to persevere - MSE is for life not just for Christmas etc etc!
I personally think it's important to build up a bit of a savings stash esp for stuff that you know is going to happen like car will need taxing, Christmas will come round once a year (!), puppy will need some vet treatment at some point - if you haven't budgeted for them and saved towards them, there's a real danger that they'll get slung on a credit card when they crop up and you'll just be adding to your debts + a small slush fund even if it's only £10 a month does give a comforting little cushion for any unexpected events that might occur esp if your DFD is a long while away
Just my thoughts anyway hope it helps

Thanks Saorsie!
I'm glad people are agreeing that it is ok to have some savings, I did have £300 put aside that was for any bills coming up, my car insurance is due on Wednesday and I think for the first time I am going to pay it in one go, for me to pay it monthly the companies are piling an extra £100-£150 on! Also, if I pay it in one go then it frees up the £50 a month that is currently being spent on it...Was thinking I can then put some of that money to the debt and some to a savings/slush fund.
Think the op for the pup tomorrow is going to come in at £169.80  but luckily OH has said he will pay it just now so that I can pay my insurance in full and I'll sort the vet bill out with him later...VSP - £14.76 | Saving for a Deposit0 -
Well I'm feeling a bit down this morning, took the pup in for her op, will be picking her up tonight. The funny thing is it's only me and OH that are bothered about it, she went with the vet happy as larry like she was going on a little adventure :rotfl:
Wanted to show you all my baby (sad I know!)
