On the bill it is itemized as 1 picture message. I couldn't find a breakdown of the bill to individual calls/texts, only the summary. (I was looking at my account on the phone. Might be clearer if I go to their website via computer).
I often send texts that are much longer than the standard 160 characters but it just goes through as two or three texts. I'm on a 2,000 texts a month contract so I don't really worry about doing this.

Found it. Person was have problem with T Mobile, but from the replies it sounds like his settings needed adjusting.
Touch wood I haven't had this particular problem so mine must be set up okay.
