Terrible customer service!

How else can I make it clear that my post was in answer to Donnie and not you?
It is only you who is missing the point. She probably had no idea of the components contained within the machine, So against what would she compare?
You use the fact that she is in business like a weapon against her. Why not add balance by accepting that precisely because she is in business that she doesn't have the time to educate herself about computer components? What are you thinking?
Perhaps it would have been educational for you if the 'Microsoft call' scammers had tricked you into paying for fixing imaginary problems on your computer.
Then you would learn the meaning of a con(fidence) trick and maybe learn to show a little more compassion.
He simply took advantage of her lack of knowledge.0 -
Personally I would have thought one of the benefits of running your own business is that you can be rude to people who annoy you.
Sorry, but this made me chuckle. As another one-man business, the last thing you can ever afford to do is be rude to a customer. We can choose who we work with, sure, but business is all about making your customers happy people.
That's why I sympathise with the OP too. I'm in IT myself, and it seems you may have been given poor advice and might have done better yourself in the way you initially reacted. But it's hard to argue with the fact that customer service is everything in business. I've written off many hours and pounds when customers have made what I felt were unreasonable demands. But we keep them happy, that's what we do. The real differentiation in business is how well you treat your customers.0 -

I accept she would have no idea Donnie. I didn't expect her to be a computer genius and it's not a hanging offence that she's not. Obviously I'm on my own in thinking it's wise to check what you're told when you're shelling out a lot of money. We're all advised to be 'savvy shoppers' but it seems as if you think you don't need to be when it comes to spending that much on a pc and we should just all trust the seller to be good to us?

I'm thinking that if she is able to run a successful business, she is clearly an intelligent individual and not some inexperienced teenager or forgetful pensioner, therefore was able to look into whether the system recommended to her was actually suitable or not. I'm also thinking that if she has time to post on chatty threads, she might also have time to post a 'how does this sound' thread about the pc, on the techie board. She could have got some useful advice when things started to go wrong instead of letting it go for so long.

Would it really? What would it have been educational about? Would I have been educated about their methods .....or my own stupidity in blindly accepting all I was told?
See the thing is, I at least tried to find out if the call was genuine or not. I accept there are many things I don't know much about, so I ask for advice.
Then you would learn the meaning of a con(fidence) trick and maybe learn to show a little more compassion.
Apologies, I didn't realise compassion was a requirement. Incidentally you've got a damned cheek lecturing me on compassion considering some of the replies you've dished out in the past to those you deem have been foolish.
He simply took advantage of her lack of knowledge.
Yes he did. Perhaps some good will come of it and the OP will be able to make more informed decisions in future. Contrary to what you may believe, I feel sorry for her that she was saddled with something that clearly let her down and that she was left feeling frustrated by her dealings with the seller. I am perfectly able to understand how she felt about the 'service' he offered her.
Unlike some, I don't automatically rush to pat the OP and offer tea and sympathy, occasionally I will play Devil's Advocate and offer an alternate viewpoint which is what I did here.
You don't have to like my view or agree with it but we all have different takes on things Donnie and there really wasn't a need for you to get personal and bring up other issues ...i.e the microsoft call thread. That is irrelevent to this topic.Herman - MP for all!

Yes he did..... That is irrelevent(sic) to this topic.
Oh the irony.....
Perhaps you can link us to the three year old 'chatty threads' to which you refer?
You are just coming over as a very unpleasant person.
Patently illustrated by your post to the OP: LIBAD it's blatently(sic) obvious that you and I are simply not on the same wave level at all.
Maybe we should just wave at each other in the passing from now on?
If you don't want to communicate with the OP then why are you posting on her thread?
She was cheated by the retailer. Your obtuse opinion that as a businesswoman she should not have allowed herself to get cheated is one of the most stupid things that I have read on these forums....and I have read a lot of stupid things.
Because in practice, it often works in quite the other way. Busy people are often happy to delegate some tasks to others. But they don't expect to get cheated.
How on earth should she ask for comparisons with a system of which she did not know the specification??
I would like you to to go back three years on the forum, to check how many people were even asking about computer specifications. Were you?
So, aliasojo, give it a rest. The more you post, the deeper the hole you dig. If you stop now you may be able to retain a little dignity.
He cheated her, plain and simple. I don't think it unreasonable for her to request that he make amends.
At least now she knows that she has the kind of support that she wasn't aware of at the time of her initial purchase.0 -

Am I? I don't think making some points which you don't like makes me unpleasant but if that is the case, so be it.

LIBAD and I have 'history' from other threads that you know nothing about. Those 2 comments (with the grinning smilies) were meant as a jokey reference to all the times we have disagreed.

I have no idea how to answer that comment tbh. I feel as if you have twisted what I said as it fits your rant better.

No-one does. This site is primarily a money saving site, it offers information about all things financial. It's basic underlying premise is that an infomed consumer is a savvy consumer. It's about protecting yourself and your cash and getting the best deals for your money. However, when I read your comments, I get the message that...'people don't expect to get cheated, it's not their fault they are the victim, a business ripped them off and in no way have they played any part in that happening'. Ok, you're entitled to your opinion, but I am allowed to disagree with it.

I spend my life asking questions so I wouldn't be surprised if I was.

You, Donnie, (not sure why the bold btw but since that was your choice I thought I'd join in) are calling me for my comments because you feel sorry for the OP and you've been trying to help her on the techie board, yet some of your own replies in the past to others who have posted things you don't agree with, have been less than friendly shall we say so I find you a little hypocritical and it makes me laugh when you use words like 'dignity'.
He cheated her, plain and simple. I don't think it unreasonable for her to request that he make amends.
I didn't think it unreasonable either!!! My original issue was that she didn't deal with it properly at the start and let it go for so long before bringing the complaint up again 3 years later. She did herself no favours by doing that especially when she was dealing with someone who sounds like he couldn't give a toss. But it would seem that I'm not allowed to hold that view according to you and in your opinion it's a clear cut case of rip-off merchant and victim. That's fine but you're not God so don't tell me what I should or shouldn't do with regards to posting here. You are *only* a poster on this site same as I am.
At least now she knows that she has the kind of support that she wasn't aware of at the time of her initial purchase.
Yes, and I'm glad she has help. If you read the thread you will see I advised her at the start to ask for help on the techie board.
I don't give a toss what you think about me Donnie. I've read a lot of your posts and know you are knowledgeable and helpful, but I've also read your unpleasant comments to others in the past when you've disagreed with them (unfairly imo) so I wont be losing sleep about your thoughts over me.
For what it's worth, I pm'd LIBAD last night and apologised if any of my comments had upset or offended her. I don't apologise for my beliefs, I will believe until my dying day that we all have some responsibility to protect ourselves by educating ourselves in whatever area we are dealing in, so that potentially unscrupulous people are not able to treat us badly, but it was never my intention to for this to have developed into an argument or for her to be offended.Herman - MP for all!

For the record :
I posted this thread to have a rant about the customer service that I had received after paying this man to do an upgrade, not about getting ripped off.
I did not use or know of the techie board when I bought the computer, otherwise I probably would have posted something on there.
I used this man because he was local (I live in a rural tight knit community) - I have always used local and yes, I trusted him to do the right thing - my computer broke and I needed another one
It is not helpful to me to be told that I should have shopped around, or that as a businesswoman I should have known better - I didnt and I didnt, I cant change that
Donnie thank you for your support - both on the other thread to help me with trouble shooting my computer and on this one for understanding what my actual problem was!0
