Well without knowing exactly what you wrote to him, it's hard to have an opinion on his reply.

He may have been a total @ss, or you may have come across (even although that was not your intent) as 'difficult' ....who knows, it's all subjective.
I'd put it down to experience if I were you and as balmk says, ask in the techie board, they're a great lot in there, helped me out loads of times.
Fingers crossed you get something that fits the bill better this time.
The thing is, even if I did come across as difficult, he still shouldnt be such a nob! I deal with customers day in day out and would love to be rude to some of them but you just dont, do you?
I will def ask for help on techie board here - I have before and had some good advice

A 3 year old pc can be slow, or starting to become obsolete, depending on the software used.
Additionally, £1500's worth of pc 3 years ago, today could be almost worthless, as many companies write them off over 3 or 4 years.
However, he could have sorted the issues for you amicably, and kept a customer for tomorrow.
Politeness is free after all

No, I agree with you there.

Thing is though why would you want to go back to a company that has given you such dreadful service in the past?0

So 3 years ago you bought from him, then complained.
Then you had him in to add memory to the system, then complained.
Maybe he just wants a quiet life?0 -

Maybe he just wants a quiet life?
If he wanted a quiet life then why didnt he just refund me the money from the upgrade (which I complained about straight away?)
Maybe he just isnt very good at running a business (unless he thinks running a business is just collecting money and then not worrying about future business, feedback and customer relations?)0 -
Why did you use him again after the issues you'd already had with him?I am a Chartered Financial Planner

He would be even worse at business if he refunded a memory upgrade when it wasn't the issue.
TBH it sounds to me that you are no good at being a consumer, as you keep returning to someone who IYO always gives poor service

I went back to him with a problem, which he told me would be fixed with a memory upgrade - I didnt just randomly ask him to upgrade my memory.
I went back to him with a problem, I didnt 'keep returning to him'0
