I believe you have either been ill-advised or have misunderstood what was said.

It's not an MSE cashback. i.e. it is not funded by MSE and MSE is not liable in any way.

The only possible connection was that is was an offer made by the insurance company exclusively to readers of MSE who used the exclusive link provided on MSE ... but that doesn't make MSE responsible for any cashback (although MSE may think again about publishing a link from the supplier if there proves to be a widespread problem)

My guess is that the application simply failed in your instance to register the coding of the specific link; quite a common error when people use cashback sites especially if they have also visited the suppliers site directly on a previous occassion. Clearing cookies/history/cached internet pages before going to through the special link sometimes helps or some people find better success by using a dedicated browser for linking to cashback sites.
