You don't get Freesat or Freeview, you get the Sky FTA channels. 3 different things. No free lunch, and no free laptop

me and my husband were talking about canceling our sky the other day due to us constantly flicking through the chanels and ending up not wanting to watch anything as its all repeats , we have heard that you can get a seperate card from sky so you can just watch freeview chanels does anyone know if this is true and will it cost us anything ? dont really want to phone up without haveing some sort of knowledge about it as they`ll persusade us to stay subscribed to sky x
You don't need to order a new card, your current viewing card reverts to what you need to just view the free channels

Hi Furley 1959
As our billing date is in the middle of the month, we queried how the account would be settled. She stated that if we paid our last DD due in mid July, we would in fact be in credit - not a good thing !! as the chances of getting any money back would probably impossible. She advised us to canx our DD with our bank and gave us the amount which would be owed by us to Sky up to our termination date. We should then ring Billing b4 the date the DD would have been taken and pay the required amount owing by Debit or Credit Card.
We just hope that this works OK as already we have had an automatic email confirmation cancelling our subscription and advising that there is an amount outstanding on our account. Just how they work this out is beyond us as we are still in credit up to mid July (as you pay in advance for their service) How can you be overdue with a payment for services not yet due, having not reached the billing date in the middle of the month for the period mid July to mid August!!!
Will wait and see what happens
The only problem with this advice is that lots of months have 31 days and when you cancel the direct debit you will get blocked if the full bill isn't paid within 14 days. Then next bill calculation that will leave you in credit won't be processed until day 16 or 17, which is after they have blocked your viewing.
Lots of people do this and get blocked early and it generates lots of p***ed off callers.
It's your choice but just be aware that this may happen. Also if you're thinking of going back to Sky later in the year this may affect what offers they make you to come back.0 -
Unless I was really desperate, I wouldn't cancel Sky. Yeah I'll threaten to to get free HD, 25% discounts or whatever, but nothing else compares except maybe Virgin? But then again that probably costs as much (wouldn't know, never seen it).
There are dodgy boxes and satellites before and other people have argued there are better options but although I hate the price increases I really think the £50/60 a month I pay for all channels/hd/phone/internet is alright. Just over a tenner a week. If I went to the pub to watch a football match I'd pay at least five times that!0 -
When I cancelled my Sky because I moved out, I was not told about this being in credit issue. Once it was all switched off after the notice period, two weeks later a cheque came in the post. I called them and thats when they explained that as I had paid the last month, I was in credit. Was a nice surprise.0
