Can i just ask has anyone ever had any problems or would advise against putting a thick carpet on the stairs?
I ask because the one we are going to order is quite thick and we like it but someone in a carpet shop today told us you don't want to really put a thick carpet on the staris because it will slip?
The carpet that we have took up which was put down by the previous occupent was quite thick and we never had any problems with that.It might be a bit thicker and the underlay will be thicker but not that much i wouldn't have thought and i would prefer the thicker type for a more luxurious feel than any old thin carpet to be honest:)Darren0 -

Carpetright, Allied Carpets & United Carpets are greedy people who rip you off high and low. They make their profits charging fairly resonable prices on the carpet... then ripping you off with the Underlay & Accessories... and even in some cases, you'll pay more for the underlay than the carpet:eek:
We also visited B&Q but still a rip off. Someone mentioned to be to try eBay for underlay and we were shocked to find how much cheaper it was, even with postage... there are some great deals & even the Wool Felt underlays looked brilliant.
I also did some searches on google and found Wilsons Underlays - www.wilsons-carpet-underlays.co.uk to be the cheapest for 3 Rolls of Cloud 9 Cumulus.0 -
i have worked for all three larger companies allied, carpet right and united carpets, also floors to go and topps tiles. i was a flooring contractor for 10 years before my knees gave up on me, so went into flooing retail, what ever you ever do dont listen to these salesmen all they want is your money. always put underlay underneath your flooring, the best you can possibly afford, try to stay with the pu foam underlays as they are fully recyclable and lighter to handle. carpenter underlays are excellent, come in six different ranges green step 8mm general domestic, super green step 10mm general domestic, richstep 9mm luxury use, deepstep 11mm luxury use, firmstep 7mm heavy domestic/contract use, powerstep 9mm heavy domestic luxury/contract use. general use are great for bedrooms, luxury for lounges and diningrooms, contract the best for hall stairs landings. all 6 can be used in any room in your home and if you have a canal boat or any maritime vessel you wish to carpet marine step 7mm contract is ideal. when purchasing flooring try to stay with indipendant companies as the prices are usually more realistic, also the service and advice is always better as the smaller companies work from word of mouth usually. if you require flooring in the manchester area give me a call details are on my website due to being a new user i cant submit a webaddress but it is csflooring dot org, this is a family owned business my father myself mother and brother all work here we also are opening a new shop in the sale area just drop us a line and we'll be glad to help0

Your 1st post promoting a company? Resurrect a thread last posted in May 2010?
I know this post is a few months old but I just wanted to say that I used the above company for delivery of some vinyl. I shopped around and this was by far the cheapest and, best of all, the delivery was free! The other online one I was going to use wanted £35 for delivery.
My order arrived today and seems to be exactly what I ordered - I had shopped around using the vinyl name and colour.
So, to be fair, I would use this company again. I have NO connections at all with this company, I had searched on these forums when I came across it online and was a bit reluctant to try but glad I did.
I hope this helps someone to make their choice.0
