So what would you suggest for the stairs and hallway?
Also how would the cloud 9 be fitted. With the usual rubber types we have always used in the past we just lay them down loose as in not stapled to the floor or anything up against the gripper and left it loose would this be the same with the cloud nine as i notice it looks more like a carpet than the usual rubber underlay?
ThanksDarren0 -
We had a quote from Allied for supply and fit of hall stairs and landing carpet, underlay and door bars and the price was huge- twice what a local firm quoted for an identical carpet (same manufacturer and product name) with the green Cloud 9 underlay which was better than the stuff Allied spec'd. I think they draw you in with a low headline price on the carpet to get your businessbut then vastly inflate the cost by overcharging for underlay. I had to pay a £50 quid deposit from Allied just to get the guy to visit to do the quote, and I guess they bank on most people being too lazy to go elsewhere or ask for their money back. I will never shop there again!
I think you should get some quotes from elsewhere, see whether the good old local independent places can help. It may not cost much if any more than buying the underlay yourself0 -

I see no problem in using either - the rubber based will reduce noise transfer better than the foam based types - at home I use rubber on our wooden stairs but Cloud 9 should work fine. Yes, ok to loose lay Cloud 9, the carpet weight will hold it in position, just make sure any small pieces don't move when the carpet is being fitted - it looks like 'foam' - packaging type - rather than carpet or the foam on a foam back carpet!I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!0 -

I agree, your local shop will have the experience to advise correctly and can often give a better deal. Seek their advice, they usually have a much greater range of products to sell. Tell them your budget and your requirements and I'm sure you will get a good deal. Lot's of samples to check out also!I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!0 -
I'm thinking of buying some Cloud9 underlay myself but cannot work out how much i need. Does anyone have a link to a site that works it out for you?
Many thanks.Errrr...come back later0 -
yep allied....used to work there,, 40 pence a foot for gripper, it costs 2 pence a foot to buy, nice profit to be had, Treadmore by duralay retails at £125 for 25 yards from most carpet independents and they would suppy gripper for about £15 to boot, ring around and ask
I have nothing better to do!!!!
