Santander ISA Problem - Other Customers Details Sent To Me

My wife and I both have / had Santander ISA, we decided to cash these in, first mine which I tried to do over the phone 3 times, each time informed that I would receive a cheque within 7 days, each time I received nothing, so I went to a branch and they said it was impossible to do over the phone as forms needed to be signed - so in the branch they closed the account and gave me a cheque - clearly they don't really know what they are doing, but I got my cheque....great....
BUT my wife had called to close her account and then forgot about it whilst we were away on holiday, so after around 5 weeks an envelope came through the door with a cheque - great - again they clearly don't know what they are doing as no signatures are clearly required.....BUT this time it was a cheque meant for a different customer of Santander, it had all their personal details - DOB, account number, address etc. very poor, so on calling Santander they promised to sort this out within a few days and get the correct cheque issued to us...1 week later still nothing....and on speaking to them today they now say that this is the first they know of our problem and will 'look into it'. They still have our money, we have no account and wondering where to turn. They are clearly not up to speed for whatever reason, but what do we do to get this sorted out? Santander seem to be completely incompetent and I'm loosing my patience!

Write a letter to them setting out the problem and your experiences, send it recorded post to their Operations Director at their head office. If you don't get anywhere after 4(?) weeks, you can send an official complaint to the Banking Ombudsman. Eventually it will get sorted. Clearly they are incompetant, but don't let it stress you out! :)

Personally, I'd also write to the other person whose cheque you got and tell them to set some rockets off, too.

That's terrible. They probably won't even bother to notify the person who's details were sent to you either.

For the life of me, I don't know why there isn't a public health warning issued with every Santander (Abbey/Alliance & Leicester etc) product.

Doesnt surprise me, they have lost my husbands ID! He had to go into branch to put in an official complaint, will soon be time for the F O to get involved if we dont get a response soon. They really should not be trading they are so inefficient, everyone is complaining about them.

Seems like a Data Protection offence has been committed here Oliverdriver!!!!!!!!!! What a total useless shower they are
  • If the branch closed the account they close it to their 'test account'. The SCM has to run a daily check on what is in it, audit have strict proceedures on it. There will be a trace for what happened. However you need of course to get the retards in the branch to actually help you but they are more concerned about sales rather than service.

Not really surprised. Santander haven't a clue what they are doing. Every different 'advisor' I speak to tells a different story and contridicts the other. Is is poor staff training? Or just a "I don't give a stuff" attitude from the management down? Either way it seems to have got worse since the takeover.

From my dealings this year they seem to be the bank from hell.

Thier complaints line is never answered you just get an answer phone saying the office is shut please ring back between these opening times, even though you called during those times!

If you tell the branch they won't believe you and when you ask them to ring up and see for them selves they refuse and claimed that they cannot dial an outside line!!!!

What a bunch of idiots.!! They should be on watchdog.

Make a complaint to the Information Commissioner's Office as they have not complied with the Data Protection Act. While its not your information this particular time, I wouldnt be confident about them holding my information. I'd also contact the person and let them know about complaining to the ICO.
