DIY Make up help please

I'm going to do my own make up as I want to look natural / like me!

I am going to buy some quality make up, I usually use No7. but want to treat myself to something that is going to stay on!
I went to Boots on saturday and I didn't have a clue where to start.
I'm looking for a foundation / powder that will cover slightly blemished skin

Any ides please?

ive bought myself lots of benefit stuff. I think that theres a lot of good ones out there and its probably a personal choice thing. talk to the people on the counters - some will do you a free makeover - benefit did for me, and they were running an offer of a free product with any purchase on the day of your trial.

free trials are great because you can test how long the products stay on, and colours etc.

i think the key is not necessarily the make of the makeup, but the actual products - so for example a primer is what will help hold the make up on, a light powder/cover up that will hide blemishes but not look to heavy. oh and avoid light reflecting products as they often cause problems in photos - white rings around eyes etc!

Also, it might be worth looking on youtube for makeup tutorials. Most will say which makeup they use and if you see a look you particularly like then you can copy and if not then you can pick up lots of handy tips :)

Don't buy MAC foundations! I have slightly blemished skin too and they are dreadful, just highlight your problems rather than cover them and they don't last too well either, they go patchy and a bit flaky on my slightly dry skin. Their Moisture Cover and Studio Finish concealers are quite good. MAC colour products, eyeshadows/blushers/lip products are fab but not the foundations. Clinique do great foundations to suit your specific skin type and the colour match is perfect. And they are reasonably cheap, about £20. And you can get them from bigger Boots stores.

I would also reccomend Benefit for their Bad Gal lash mascara, amazing lashes no need for falsies! They do a waterproof version too but this gets a bit flaky after a while. Benefit Eye Bright pencil is a must too as it brightens up your eyes for a lovely fresh faced bridal look without being too harsh like a white pencil could be.

Illamasqua do lovely blushers specifically Nymph (quite pinky toned) and Benefit do Hoola, which is a nice matt bronzer.

Ooh also you can book your make up trial with Bobbi Brown. It costs about £25 I think but this is redeemable against products, which again are of a very high quality. They have counters in John Lewis, Selfridges, Debenhams etc.

I would totally recomend Bobbi Brown - they write everything down on a chart for you so you can see how it all works when you are at home - they don't really sell you anything without trying it on you first and they have lots of stuff for correcting any type of skin.
They normally have counters in John Lewis or House of Fraser.
I spent most of my bonus there! :p

I would recommend Max Factor Seamless for foundation, I always wear that on nights out and it is usually still in place the next day! Lol. Also, in case you are looking for something to keep eye shadow on too, I recommend Urban Decay Primer Potion. My eyeshadow still looks perfect the next day!
