My friends at work - two close ones, are pretty aware of my financial situation (although they were horrified when i told them how much i owe (and OH owes even more - i didnt tell them that bit!!)) but when we go out, i dont eat, as i bring lunch in with me, and generally onyl ever have a soda water and lime (45p!. They look at me as if I am stingy when i get my 45p out!! it gets right on my nerves cos I dont want to waste money and am trying to be really good, but they make me feel stingy!!!
Im not sure if I am being over sensitive or should say something to them. One of them owes me £50 for robbie tickets i brought in May and she still hasnt paid me. I brought the tickets in today and said, "heres your tickets - im really skint" and she said "oh you better hang on to them til the day before cos i will lose them" and walked off! AHHHHHHHHHHH

I don't think they're doing it deliberately - when you're not either in debt and trying to get out, or trying to save money for something, you just don't think the same way DFWs do.
I have a friend who used to be totally carefree, always going out, always spending, always treating money like it didn't really exist. He got his own flat a little over a year ago, and now he has a budget, he works out how much he has for a month, and says things like 'I can't afford to go to XYZ, how about we do (something cheaper) instead' - it was quite a shock to see him change like that!
I'd explain to them that you really don't have any money, and ask them to pay up for those tickets sooner rather than later.DFW Nerd No. 140

I think they are being really insensitive - probably the types who have never had to worry about debt. Why not say something like "Robbie tickets are going for £200 on ebay at the moment, and actually that would really help my debt situation" and see if they still want you to hang on them!0

I was just about to post almost the exact same thing.
How much are those tickets going for...? You could tell them that the price they have to pay will go up according to their market value as calculated using ebay..... :laugh:LBM: Nov 2004 Debt Apr06: £19,273.46 (Highest)

Totally would put those tickets up on Ebay! Either she coughs up or you sell them. Easy as that! If they don't fetch enough on Ebay then look at sending them back for a refund
Tell her that you need the money she owes for the tickets (if you want then tell her it's for something particular like car tax etc and say it in a loud voice in the office: "Hey I don't suppose you have the money for the tickets for Robbie do you? Only I had earmarked that money for my car tax and I really need it back now. If you don't want the tickets it's ok I'll just Ebay them."
And if they think your stingy then they're not your friends... sorry!DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

loopyloulou,
How frustrating! I would just be blunt with her and say you need the money now, if she can't afford it then it'll have to be ebayed/ returned.
I am guessing she too has money problems and that is why she is stalling payment, also she probably feels bad for wasting money on lunch and so takes it out on you. My colleagues think I am so boring because I never go to the pub at lunchtime anymore (it is too tempting to buy a glass of wine, I have no will power!), but then I got an email from a guy I work with asking for help sorting out his debts!Saving for an early retirement!0 -
The OH organises trips away to the coast with old-school friends, which muggins here ends up bankrolling. The friends are supposed to pay deposit/balance on time, but a couple of them have the holiday then pay. This has happened for a couple of years now, and it is the same two (the richest two!) who do it.
The OH now says that this one is the last, and someone else will have to organise it. Of course this might have something to do with the fact I've said I won't be bankrolling any more of them (because I'm sick of it), and the OH just can't afford to pull out that kind of money.
They end up spoiling it for themselves."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)
"We were born and raised in a summer haze." Adele 'Someone like you.'
"Blowing your mind, 'cause you know what you'll find, when you're looking for things in the sky." OMD 'Julia's Song'0 -
I'd just ask her straight up for the Money, some people just can't take the hint unless you're blunt with them. Like someone said there's always ebay!0

i know the tickets have been going pretty cheap on ebay and they cost me £50 a ticket! its so frustrating, i dont want to fall out over it and am no way handing them over til i get the cash!
i think she doesnt know waht it is like to have money worries0 -
I'm with Imelda on this - I think your colleague feels guilty about her own spending and it taking it out on you. Either way, I would give her a deadline by which you must have the money and, if she doesn't keep to the deadline, sell the tickets - you might even make a profit then you can buy yourself a glass of wine (or whatever your tipple of choice is) next time you all go to the pub!!Debt at highest: £6,290.72 (14.2.1999)
Debt free success date: 14.8.2006 :j0 -
yep im gonna be brave and do it! she said she will come round to my desk and collect the tickets 2nite and im not going to give them to her unless she gives me the money.0
