The Post Office!!!!!! AAAArgh!

Options
really neeed to vent real bad!!!!

Well I went to town today cos I needed to get some envelopes for a couple of packages that I was sending, I also needed to send a mobile phone back. Sooo, I went to the post office and it was HEAVING! I packaged everything up appropriately and got in the BIG queue. 20 minutes later it was my turn to be served. OMG the guy at the counter was HORRIFIC! He was the most miserabel guy ever, before I even had chance to say hiya, he grunted "wheres it goin?", I told him, he grunted something else incoherently (sp??) and I presumed he wanted me to place the package on the scales. I did so and he then asked what cover (insurance) I want on it, I told him I needed consequential insurance up to £1k (as advised by the company I was sending the contract phone back to). He then informed me I had to pay £6.20, fair does. I said, hang on I have more to post, at this point he grimaced and snapped "how much more do you have to post?!" I HAD ONLY POSTED ONE THING SO FAR! :o, I told him just one more package after that. He then TOLD ME OFF for not putting a customs sticker on the package (it was for Japan), I apologised and told him I've never sent anything abroad before, then when I asked if the next package (to Netherlands) needed one, he looked at me like I was crazy and said "of course not" in a sarcky way!!! :(:( He then threw (yes threw) my packages into the box where they all go and gave me my change. I asked for a receipt and he thrust one at me. I was so glad to get out of there. He was horrific!! :(

AND TO TOP IT ALL OFF!!!!! I've just checked the receipt, He hadn't wrote the addresses of the packages on it so I actually have no proof of postage (just a receipt saying how much I paid), also, looking at the special delivery receipt - he hasn't put any consequential insurance on it!! :( So if it goes missing overnight I'm not insured properly!!! God I hope it doesn't!!!!!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Vent over! Has anyone else had this problem before? I would report him but I think he was liek that cos of the massive queue. There was only 8 tills open and about 60/70 ppl queueing!

In my local post office they only write the addresses on the reciept if you ask them to. You need to complain if he hasn't added insurance because you would've paid extra it.

Doesn't matter how many people are queuing, if he isnt happy with the job then he shouldn't be working there and shouldn't treat people with such little respect.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience.

Apparently Monday morning is a bad time to go. If we ever go into our little town centre early to get a fresh loaf from the bakery, opposite there will be around 30 people queuing up from about 8.30 am onwards waiting for the PO to open at 9 am. These are the people who withdraw pensions and benefits in cash, so perhaps after dealing with a crowd of those the counter staff get a bit disgruntled at someone wanting to do something different e.g. post a parcel!

Having said that, the post office counter in Waitrose was busy on Saturday afternoon when I went there to post a parcel, but they were cheerful.

    Thanks for your replies. :)

You're right, he should have been at least cheerful but not nasty. I would be sacked if I was like that at work and we get big queues there as well.

I'm gonna write an email to them and see what they have to say, I'm more concerned about the fact that the insurance hasn't been added, which means if it is lost I have to pay the contract. :(

Oh I had hassle last year at the post office when I was trying to apply for three passports. I ended up with three women (one manager) behind the desk humiliating me; one shouted at me, one laughed at me and one played the big 'I am' being nasty and laughing with her pals. I left in tears.

My husband went back and got their names, he's a very dipomatic person (has to be in his job) but he came back fuming as the women had thrown him a slip of paper with their names on while laughing at him.

I complained to everyone and everyone, got a two page apology from the post office (they checked the CCTV) the staff were notified of my complaint, re-trained and one was moved to another post office.

I think it must be in the job description that they have to play God, be nasty and unhelpful.

***gosh... I'm not normally like this, it illustrates how downright rude, nasty and unhelpful they were :o ***
Just run, run and keep on running!

    hi kittykate!

sorry to hear about your bad experience, i work at a post office too and there is no need for attitudes like that. if he was working for me id tell him to sling his hook!

ive checked for you, if the item weighed between 501-1000 grams and he's charged u £6.20 for it, then its likely hes upped the standard compensation limit from £500 to £1k. if it was a mobile phone u were sending back, then consequential loss wasnt really the service u needed, the company misinformed u by saying that. cons loss is more for legal documents that go missing, although the document has no real monetary value, the consequences of them going missing could be valuable. whereas in your case, its the actual contents that need insuring. so rest assured, your package sounds like its adequately covered.

if u know or can remember where the other packages were going, just put the house number/postcode on the receipt yourself.

8 positions open, 60/70 ppl queueing???!!! we're lucky to get 6 or 7 ppl queueing!! come to our post office for a fast and friendly service!!!

Apparently Post Office Counters are going to do a deal with WH Smiths to put Counters in there....which will of course bring it's own delights.

In an ideal world, I would like the Post Office to be in my local highstreet in the supermarket, and it would open 8am-8pm Mon-Sunday, have an express till for only Letters and Parcels so that I would not be stuck behind, the car tax person who forgot the mot, the pensioner that wants a dog licence, the woman with 5 kids trashing the place and smoking a fag, the bloke out of his skull on booze, the timid mouse who speaks so quietly that no one on the counter can here her, and the countless other morons that always seem to be in front of me..........and then theirs the counter staff to deal with...........

I had the same attitude in one of the local sweetshop-come-everything-plus as an after thought, post office.

I was sending a letter via special delivery. Never done this before and asked how to do it. Got an attitude as if it was my fault that I did not know how to fill it in.

Got the forms filled out as fast as I could and got out of there!

I am an easy going guy, don't mind if anybody asks me question if they don't understand. I just don't like a rude person who loves belittling people. It even makes me more annoyed as it's my custom which helps him keep his post office business.

Was the first and last time I have used this post office.

Use mainly the one in my local Waitrose which is open when the store is open eg until 8pm mon-thurs and 9pm friday and is even open on Sunday. (Got my car tax disk there one sunday as I was leaving it to the last minute so I was getting the interest on the money not the GOV!! )

Always smiling and happy and very very helpful.

Strange thing is I have a main post office just about 100 yards from where I work but you just can't get to the counters for the amount of people. I have sometimes seen the queue stretch out into the street at very busy times.

Thanks for that :) they emailed me today saying they've received it, so i don't have to worry no more. :)

they said something about consequential loss to cover it cos if it goes lost and it's not adequately insured then i would have to pay the contract up, whereas if it was then it would be covered. top notch phone + 12 months line rental would be more than £500 or something like that.
