But my Toshiba suggestion would have easily played FIFA 2010....which is the point.

Not difficult to suggest a gaming laptop if there is no budget. :)

Sorry I was not trying to poo poo your toshiba suggestion:D

The £499 Novatech has a lesser specification than the Toshiba, doesn't it??
Not only that, but it doesn't even include an OS.

Sorry for hijacking the thread but noone answered on the sticky one.
I need a laptop, all I do is post on here, use facebook, MSN, shop online and sometimes watch things such as bbci player, very rarely download anything.
I have seen 2 on ebuyer.

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/195053
    and
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/182576

I have no clue what any of the specs mean so dont want to go for the cheapest one just cos it's cheap if it's not all that iyswim.

    No.

    Current alternatives:

    Samsung R519 £294
    Satellite L450-18D £304
    Medion Akoya P6613 £304
    MSI-CR610 £324
    Toshiba Satellite L500-1WG £343

None of them are the cream of the crop, but all are much better than what are in your links.
Don't worry about the 'refurb' tag, they should look as new. If not, send it back and request a replacement.
They have a full 12 month guarantee.

The Samsung should exceed your apparently basic requirements.

The MSI has very good specifications, though I've never seen one. It may or may not be to your taste.
The first Toshiba has no webcam.

    Thanks for that.
I was a bit dubious buying refurb, I bought my last lappy from an exchange shop (cex) and the motherboard has just gone on it, only had it since December, it does have 12 month warranty on it but not sure if it covers something like that.

Don't worry, the one's in my link have a FULL warranty. You are in effect buying from Argos. but they cannot sell returns as new. Definitely not the same as buying from an exchange shop. Could just as well be an unwanted gift from Argos that can no longer be sold as new.

What is the CEX warranty worth if it does not include the Motherboard??

What about your CEX laptop? Do you think they won't fix it?

I never really thought about it really, the computer shop said it was not economical to repair, I cant take it back to the branch I bought it from either.
And I dont even know if I stil have the receipt (have moved twice since buying it)

It's under warranty! Of course they have to fix it or replace it if the mobo has gone within the warranty period. You can take it back to any branch of the same shop. You don't need the receipt (though it would certainly have helped), you simply need proof of purchase (credit card bill, bank statement?)
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
