don't you have a treadmill at home?

Yes, and I will use it more when it gets icy, but running on the roads is far better for marathon training. And far less boring too!!

    Hi Hypno and guys,

DT, now that you mentioned 'sensible' I suddenly feel much less sure about defering London. Lets be rekless - and then who am I to talk as the only thing stopping me from attempting a Bob Garham or an ultra marathon is the threat with divorce.

Hypno, you do know that to run a marathon fast you don't need to do the 4 hour runs. I didn't believe till I ran Loch Ness (very scary) in five hours on less than 20 miles a week. You have to build loads of strength though and do other stuff. If you are interested I can tell you more about that - I am writing a book on fitness after all.

As to running in the cold, dark icy weather - I actually quite like it and certainly prefer it to treadmills. One needs proper winter gear (a hat is a must) and possibly company.

    what happened to my smileys!!!!!

If you send a message all upper-case, then the boards automagically drops it down to lower case. That kills the :D (aka : D smiley), but the :j (AKA : j) smiley is fine...

So in future, jump a little if you're grinning... ;)

ooh, yes, FW, tell me more about how I can get a faster time on shorter runs!

I don't care HOW I do it, as long as I get a time beginning with "4" :D and I am decided that I will aim to run both. Life is for grabbing by the balls, after all :rotfl:

Z....I didn't use either a big D or a little d....I pressed the picture of the smilie and it went useless all by itself :o

All that clicking the smiley does is insert a colon and a capital D. It's a bit of a con... ;) (I type in virtually all my smileys in long-hand - sad person that I am... :o )

Hypno, if you are running two marathons next spring I probably would brave divorce and enter an ultra marathon. The London to Brighton race is a good one - about 54 miles? (OK possibly a bit more but who is counting).

About your training - you will need to PM me what are you doing now andf we take it from there - but it can be done.

Now back to work for me - running talk is so much more fun though...
