It is virtually all down to your grit, determination and hard work - and (to be fair) that of your (X)OH.

Oh yes, I fully accept that it has been hard work for both of us. Ultimately, we paid the price as there will always be an element of the debt stress that contributed to our marriage break down, but he is now debt free, and I will be in the next few months, so in a financial way, for both of us it will have paid off. I hope that doesn't sound flippant in any way - I know that "life" is so much more than finances but for us, as for many on these boards, the finances have been all consuming for such a long time.

Our jobs will be to move forward without getting back into debt, and learning from the big price we have both paid in order to make the most of our futures.

  • Doesn't sound flippant. I think its hard to move on fully or make all the changes you want with the debt as a reminder to a different time. Once that has gone it will be like having a clean slate? I have recently finally let myself dream about what might happen next now I am not peering round a mountain of debt

Think that stands for lots of us lady. I will NEVER go back to how I was before. I just couldn't and it would stick in my throat to even go near certain things/places. WELL DONE AGAIN!

Yes, all the years of being on this site have certainly taught me a whole lot of stuff that is priceless. And if I haven't formed good habits by now, then I probably never will!!
