  • Afternoon all. We had a fab time at the pool - there was a little slide into the water which Izzy loved, and the rapids were fun too, and there was a jacuzzi :) We're going to try out a different one next week I think. I want to go to one with a wave pool, but I may be outvoted next week - it might have to wait till the time after.

Time to sort out Izzy's tea now, then we need to go to the allotment. I was hoping to take Izzy to the park too, but it looks very threatening out there. I'm not sure we will want to do anything other than water in the greenhouse and come home again. It is the allotment show tomorrow. Elvis is playing, and I'm entering 2 kinds of chutney, plus DH is going to enter our largest marrow and some beetroot :)

CAFC, just went back and read your post as i was skim reading earlier and well done! :D

DH watches Top Gear repeats on Dave and always get stressed with Lily when she's making noise. Usually she's screaming because she's so happy and having fun but he hates it.
I let her do it more whilst telling him to shut up and leave her alone :rotfl:

I dont let DH near the bottles and sterilier, he opened it once and nearly threw all of the fresh clean teats on the floor! ¬¬

    Which brings me to..

    BLW people
Im thinking this is something i want to try, Lily is 6 months very soon and i cba with Purees anymore.
Already she's had, yorkshire pudding, carrot sticks (cooked and fresh), tortilla strips and i gave her some cheese.

Now my problem. Since she now has 2 teeth, she bites things. The cheese stick i gave her she bit a chunk off and DH took it straight out of her mouth and threw it away. Same with the soft cooked carrot stick and the tortilla strips.

He said she's not allowed chunks and giving her food means she'll choke. (When she is choking and i know its a small bit i let her get on with it to see if she'll sort herself out, which she did once. She choked, bought it up, chewed it more and re swallowed it :D)

Is this true? And how do i stop him taking her food away from her?

    Slap his hands away EA...

She has a very sensitive gag reflex that's about halfway down her tongue... If food gets too close she'll gag it back forward again... She's very unlikely to choke :)

Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

EA - How else is she meant to learn how to chew???? Plus when she's eating you're with her, so if she does choke, you'll be there to help her if she cant settle herself...

I thought giving them things in sticks that they can gum and suck on to increase the softness was the point, so pepper, fine beans, baby corn etc
I could be totally wrong though. Can you get hold of a book/ show DH a website which explains BLW, so he knows why you're opting for that method rather than purees?

How come you cba with purees if you dont mind me asking? Really I'm information gathering, if you cba, chances are i wont be LOL

  • EA - the test is meant to be if they can sit up on their own, pick up a bit of banana (or something) and put it in their mouths. If they can do that then they are ready to eat it!

You will probably find that to start with it is mostly playing with rather than eating, so you might want to carry on with the purees for a bit to bulk it out a bit if you are worrying she isn't eating enough (I weaned Izzy at 17 weeks, so thats what I did when she was big enough for proper solid things). As well as banana, steamed veg is good (I just used a collander over a saucepan), as are lots of fruits, cheese and of course the best chip shaped/sized things are chips :)

Which is exactly what she did with the yorkshire pud :D

I did suggest pepper but he said no as its a pepper, which is hot??

I'll probably get a book from the library to show him.
And i cba because its frustrating, Lily just spits it out and rubs it in her eyes :rotfl: There is limited purees she will actually eat and the preparing is boring :p

She's close to sitting, she can sit very well supported and sit for about a minute unsupported and everything goes in her mouth! :rotfl:
She loves nothing more than a carrot stick to chew on and lick :D

So do 50/50 until she is fully able to eat solid food?

She's currently shouting at me, she just threw up her milk (again!) so im letting it go down before she has the last few ounces :rotfl:
  • 50/50 is pretty much what we did. I kept giving her some purees until she was getting enough solid food that she didn't need the purees any more. (Well, she still has things that are meant to be eaten with a spoon anyway - puddings and stuff!)

The current obsession is dipping things in stuff. So today for tea she has a load of mini breadsticks, with a big dollop of pate and a big dollop of soft cheese to dip them in. Plus some cherry tomatoes, which I will probably have to prompt her to dunk too :rotfl:. Earlier in the week when we didn't have anything else I had to give her dippy things and ketchup, but having some pate probably has a bit more nutritional value!

Does anyone have any opinion on the baby jogger city select?
I think that might be the buggy we're going for... Bit pricey though!

I know someone who has it and they LOVE it:D We tried it out in the shop, I personally found it heavy BUT it was the best tandem I had seen tbh:)
