Morning All
Been up since half four, My next door but one neighbour was burgled and their car nearly stolen, they are away on holiday and I am looking after the house for them. Feel terrible for her she was burgled just after Xmas and has just got all her stuff back, have been round and can see they have taken the Xbox, an IPod, the wii and I could not see the laptops but I'm hoping she had the sense to hide them.
Am still feeling a bit shaky, its times like this I hate OH working away!
Anyway I wanted to ask, if it was you would you want to know or would you rather find out when you got back from your holiday? (am not going to tell her until she gets back I don't think but wondered how other people would feel?)
Also not sure what to do about Millie, she is going to notice the damage and that the games consoles and car have gone but don't want to tell her they were burgled, I don't want her worried about it happening to us, we are feeding their rabbit and lizard and OH is away so kids have to come round to the house with me.MFW Start Sep 07 £79484, Now £587740 -

Oh Millie's Mum, how awful
I am no use to you at all - if it was my home then I would want to know straight away but if I was looking after the house like you then I probably wouldn't tell them as there is not a lot they can do....
I have no idea about Millie either sorry - how much does she understand and does she get afraid of things easily? The one thing children wear out faster than shoes is parents:D

Millie is nearly 7 so will understand what has happened (in theory) and I think she'll remember how upset my friend was when it happened before.
I don't really think she'll be frightened, its more that I don't even want her to know such things are possible iyswim? I'd like her to keep her rose tinted view of the world for as long as she can.
I suspect the break in has been done by somone who knows the neighbours teenage daughter, last time it turned out to be a friend of an unsavoury character she had been hanging out with and I've just checked her FB status and she says on there that she is going on holiday, also their cellar is converted into a games room and all the games consoles have been taken from down there, a 'normal burglar' wouldn't have gone straight down the cellar.
Just dreading having to tell her I suppose!MFW Start Sep 07 £79484, Now £587740 -
Oh MilliesMum, how horrible for them, I suppose there's not much point telling them as it will only ruin there holiday and there is nothing they can do anyway! I don't know, are they the type of people who would rather know straight away?
I would tell my kids the truth tbh.....
EDIT - Will they need to speak to the police though??Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
Nothing is going to get better. It's not.0 -
Hi Mel,
Did you have a good time yesterday? saw your pics, they both looked gorgeous!
I will tell her the truth I always do, I just hope it washes over her, she's away with the fairies most of the time so she might not really take it in.
Thats what I'm thinking that there is nothing she can do and it will only spoil her holiday, she;s back Thursday but I don't know what time, might hang around at home so I can catch her as soon as she gets in, she's going to know even before she gets in the house anyway, the police have taken the car to their garage.MFW Start Sep 07 £79484, Now £587740 -
morning all,
I've been lurking but not really posted.
Milles' mum: personally I wouldn't want to know as I'd only spend the holiday worrying/trying to get home etc. If its all been reported to the police then the insurance company can sort the rest out when they get back. If Millie asks I'd tell her you've had a tidy up for when they get home. Did you realise someone was in there?
Mel: pictures are gorgeous!
Congrats Mr & Mrs Bruno, Krystal & Pinkpig and Pigspen on your expectant/new arrivals!
Thanks to everyone else for cute stories and pictures of their little ones.
I'm working now, keeps me really busy and enjoying it so much. Charlie & Reece seem to love the childminders, every morning they ask if they are going there - even the weekend! Will be great at the end of the month when I get paid! After I started this job I had two other offers for interview and then two phone calls offering me other jobs, took about jobs like buses!:heart2: Charlie born Aug 2007 :heart2: Reece born May 2009

Mel, both your babies look lovely. I'm so glad it was a good day.got-it-spend-it wrote: »I don't know if anyone remembers the Hen Do I went on where there was a BBQ with no veggie food, well you may not be surprised to here that the veggies options at the associated wedding left a lot to be desired. It was a buffet on each table, so each table had a big bowl of salad, potatoes etc. The 'protein' part was all on one plate so the veggie option of quiche was served on top of rare, bloodied beef. Delightful! I made a fuss and requested a different piece of quiche from the kitchen. The evening food was a bloomin hog roast with no veggie option! Charming! We've only been friends for 15 years and I've only been veggie all that time (and so was at least one other guest). Rant over .
I would be  too. It just isn't done. I was veggie when planning our wedding so the veggie option was fantastic, and the place we had the evening dinner was so good to our picky vegetarian guests (two, one has various allergies and sensitivities and the other has always just been incredibly picky) so everyone was happy. I can't imagine anyone ever not considering the feelings of all their guests. Bastages.
MilliesMum, I'd probably tell them the day they got home so they didn't walk into it unknowing, IYKWIM. But you probably know her better - would she be annoyed at not being told?
I'm up getting a head start on my list. 20 items on it, 10 already done :j I love snuggling up with my baby, but once she starts dreaming she starts kicking, headbutting and flailing and it's like being in bed with a tank full of octopi.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

Will add some to today's shopping list. ThanksMadDogWoman wrote: »MOTM - I have a family member who just has to see a boat to feel ill swears by them, it the only thing that worked. Mind you they just avoid all sea going vessels now.
I'll get some then and see if it helps. Not going to break the bank, so worth a gamble.
Mel - Very smart!
Millie's Mum - Sorry to hear the bad news. I remember someone being burgled close to here and that alone made me feel insecure and nervous that we may be next. Having it happen must feel like a horrible invasion of privacy. I hope they catch the little b!ggers and string them up.0 -

Half way there already!
Funny you should mention Octopi, being in Germany and 'Paul the Octopus' being a big star. I'd imagine he was quite an attraction now.0
