MOTM - thanks, my puds are Astoria and Staten (guess where our fave place is?), a girl and a boy left to right as you look at the pic,. They are both RSPCA ones that were dumped/covered in paint so, even when C pesters them, they have a very nice life here with us. You have 7 puds??? Wow - can you name them all or do they just blend into one another? I'd love more if they didn't leave bl**dy fur everywhere!!

Do they like Big Apples? ;) Poor cats being covered in paint :( As i've said before, we love animals so always saddens me when hearing such stories :( Glad they are happy now though :)

Ours are called Stanley, Oscar, Boris, Araminta, Pixie, Miley and Montana. Not as unusual as yours and made as simple for the girls as possible as they were obviously younger when we got some of the cats. Miley and Montana we've had for 2 years and were named by the twins  (also have a daughter called Hannah, but Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus wasn't known then so just a coincidence!) and Boris we've had for 3 months. Cats all have seperate personalities, so you can't mix them up. And no, it's not 1 cat per child, it's just the way it's turned out at the moment and no-one has a particular cat, they are all 'shared' so to speak.

The fur can be annoying, but we have 7 little helpers with that :p

Pains in the bum half the time are cats, but the rest of the time they are lovely. Always give in too their little faces don't you? :)

As far as i know a flat is only on one floor :undecided that may explain why you have never heard of it MFD and motm i agree with you it is indeed called a maisonette .

On the subject of stairgates we have none :D

Some flats near us have the top level as maisonettes, but the area is still known as xxxxxx flats. One of lifes strangeties :D
it is a masionette as motm said but its still a flat .. you dont wanna understand them all you need to know is they're crap .. but they'll do :) x

It's a roof and a start. Hopefully a nice area though.....?

That sounds really great! If I had two sets of stairs, i'd have one for up, and one for down! Or maybe i'd put escalators in. :D

SM My first boyfriend lived in a maisonette, and he had a door from his bedroom, out onto the landing of the block. Very handy for sneaking girlfriends in and out without his Mum noticing. :p

Tried that, but no, both are up and both are down. I often wondered why those whose rooms are on one side would go up the other stairs, but the girls tell me it's the same distance as if they took the other stairs they'd have to walk to the other side of the house anyway, only downstairs instead of up. They have a point.

Do I take it you were sneaked in and out? ;)

My parents house has one set of stairs with a mini landing then a small set of stairs coming off either side. We used to have loads of fun jumping across and could never understand why my Mum used to shout at us!

Oooh, 3 stairs - any advance?

On the subject of stairgates - I used to be lazy and climb over them, rather than open them to walk through. At least until the day I misjudged and nearly was unable to 'provide' again.

I climb over our stair gate as well. I was very much in the 'I'll see what I need' and was OK with just the one at the top of the stairs but he loved climbing the stairs too much and then trying to turn around and sit on air

He slept well last night :D woke at 4am sand was a bit whingey so gave him a small bottle & he went back to sleeo in his cot until 7am :j
first time all week he's not ended up in with us - tooth looks like its all the way through now. I cannot handle this with every tooth though - its been horrendous.

GISI, is this any use to you (and anyone else wanting to go to the Isle of Wight)? :)

Thanks for thinking of me, Elle. That looks like a very good offer.

I'm getting ready for work, on a Saturday . How very rude! Only doing a few hours and I'm planning to drink my body weight in fancy coffee so it's not all bad ;).

We have no stairgates yet, but will get one for the top of the stairs so H can't topple down. I don't plan to get one for the bottom, but who knows!

Henry is currently sat in his high chair shouting Hello :T! So cute!

I hope you feel better soon Mel.

Bruno- I hope OH feels better today and that the weather is good for your BBQ.

Oh I used to do this too - I also used to slither down the stairs head first - there was a glass door at the bottom

OH has been sick yesterday and today... yesterday she was nauseous, threw up while out with E, lots of stomach pain, possibly a bit feverish. Today, nausea subsided over the course of the day and is gone, but shortness of breath and occasional faintness have got worse. She refused point-blank to go to the doctor, then finally an hour ago she's like "maybe we should go to A&E I'm not sure". So we do NHS Direct and they don't think it's an urgent life-threatening issue but they recommend we go A&E tonight, so OH won't go (Friday night in A&E = 4+ hours with drunk injuries, and our neighbours babysitting a traumatised E til 3am) but "might go in the morning" if she still feels bad.

    Gaaah.

How is she this morning? Did the maternity unit answer eventually?
    3onitsway wrote: »
Here, once you're pregnant, you bypass A&E. (Which is handy on a Friday night!)

What if you break your leg while pregnant? Do you still get the Go directly to Maternity, go not go via A&E, do not collect a horde of drunks card?

Re stairs, we have none, although there are four flights outside the door. Re gates, we have three, all of which are in the boxes. Two of them are terribly inconvenient and the third doesn't fit (spur of the moment purchase of fancy gate with internal gate for parents by Husband, who failed to read the piece of paper I'd sent him out with with the details of the gates to buy and the width of the doorframes - just over 1m, we live in an old building where people used to wear crinolines and petticoats).

It's a bit of a PITA, I wanted to close the doors to rooms I didn't want the beastie in/she shouldn't be in alone but our apartment is shaped a bit like a capital I with the kitchen at the top horizontal line and living room and bedrooms at the far end, so the baby gate would have been nice for the kitchen door to let the light into the dining room/connecting area - but the only one that fits has to be removed to get past it and we CBA every time we need to get in or out of the kitchen.

Husband still sick and shivering under a blanket on the sofa :( Molly's apparent new favourite toy of the day is a plastic picnic knife she found in Husband's work bag - is this unsafe for her, given that it's blunt and rubbish, or is the mere "knifeness" of it enough to warrant me taking it away? I worry that my unconcerned mummy pose will get me in trouble, which negates my not worrying.

And on that note, I would like to apologise to mooki for immediately comparing her clever Leila to Molly the other day. I *know* all babies do their own stuff at their own times and I was having an off day. I'm sorry, and I think it's awesome that Leila is doing so much cool stuff so early on.
