MOTM, I think Ladybird may have just thought they were cute :D.

IMO, it's far too early to be making big decisions like breastfeeding or bottles. Let Lucy get used to being pregnant first and have a few discussions with the midwife. A lot of people never "decide" that sort of thing anyway, but just go with what feels the best once baby is born. If you're breastfeeding, which the NHS highly recommends and encourages, bottles and sterilisers are very much secondary gear and definitely not something to worry about acquiring in early pregnany IMO. Focus on the fun stuff for now, like itty bitty baby clothes and decorations for the nursery. But if you're finding out the flavor, don't go hog wild and just wait until the 20 week scan so you can really go crazy once you know the sex ;). I know the girls are excited, but too much too soon will cause some burn out and mean you have less fun stuff to buy later!

    :D

Grumpy baby here today. I think we have a tooth!!

Ah I see. When I saw NEED, I took it literally

Flavour is the sex yes? And yes we need to do it in stages. I think we decided not to get the bottles because of the reasons you give. She wants to bottle feed, but...breast feeding may be possible. I am no expert so can't even advise her here, so that's where the midwife will come in. She is concerned as she's never had a baby, so has no history of breastfeeding and has no idea of the feelings, physical and mental. I'm guessing this is natural to be nervous and anxious about having a first. I'm used to women just telling me what they want, rather than talking to me about it, so this approach is new to me.

Socks are fine MOTM - look at all the sleepsuits that come with feet in them :)

I also got Molly some socks with reinforced rubber soles for crawling because I was worried she'd hurt herself with her freaky upturned toenails, but she doesn't have any solid shoes and I leave her barefoot more often now she's a bit more adept at moving about.

That's what I thought, but this woman was very adamant.

Do we need them? I thought babies were meant to have their feet free for the first year? Something someone told me recently, although we thought that was just shoe free, but this person insists it's no socks or anything which I find unbelieveable because of cold weather etc

If the baby is anything like my two then socks are just an additional toy to keeps taking off and throw about.... (and wind mummy up when they come off all the time!!!:rotfl:)

And you'll soon find out that once the pregnancy is out in the open/visible, lots of people will have 'advice' for you & Lucy. You both must learn to smile and nod, and ignore them. :D

Poor Lucy - We were all first time parents once. I was absolutely terrified, I didn't even like children. :rotfl:

I'm having tea early with the children tonight as OH is at work til midnight. I made a Kung Po stir fry and it's a little bit spicier than I thought. V is eating it, but sticking her tongue out to wipe it every now and again.

I don't like eating early, i'll be hungry again by 8pm.

Today has been a good day btw - nothing else has gone wrong.
(we've all stayed in the house wrapped in bubblewrap all day).

MOTM, lots of people are very adamant about lots of things when it comes to babies, which is I think why sometimes people on this thread argue - there are things we all feel strongly about that other people do differently and might think we're wrong for.

I think keeping a baby barefoot in the depths of winter is asking for a baby with frostbitten amputated toes - your acquaintance might think that I'm barbaric for having put my baby in structured socks at ~8 months. Some people think breastfeeding is icky and weird and ruins your boobies, others think it's the best option for everyone. You look at both sides and then go with what works for you. And Lucy, of course.

In general I'm pro-BF, but can see that formula feeding would allow all your girls - and you - to be much more involved in the care of the new baby than if it spent most of its time attached to Lucy. But it's not something you need to think about right now.

Great fun. For the baby anyway. The parent will become very bored quickly, especially when the baby is meant to be feeding. :D

The people we have told already have much advice to give. To be honest, most of them we told out of politeness. I haven't even told most of my siblings yet and won't, miserable useless bunch. Lucy's family won't be told either as she doesn't keep in touch.

I shall be taking the advice of people on this thread and the pregnancy thread etc as well as reading lots of literature now I have time on my hands. Also healthcare professionals will be heard - listen to all advice. I've been there before, but as previously stated, with the girls mothers, it was their way or no way. Until they got bored of them and then it was all my way, like it or not and i'm human, I suspect I got things wrong.

Glad today has been a good one for you - any updates from your holiday complaints?

For sure, we'll take all the advice and discuss it as people will have different ideas. Lucy (or I) don't want to ruin her breasts. That would be tragic. :rotfl:In fact she's going to lose that figure, It's a crime.

We'll worry about that nearer the time. We both want the girls to be active in baby's life, but some things they just cannot do - and neither can I. Lucy has the hard work and I can support her as much as I can.
