I can walk a bit, does that mean I don't need a wide space? I can't see very well so I appreciate being able to fully open the car door to get in and out. I agree with your point that some people use the spaces but can walk quite well but it is so difficult to enforce. And I find some disabled people act as though they are the only ones.
I don't usually take a BB space if there's only a couple left because I know wheelchair users would be stuck, but I hadn't really considered it until we got back to the car one day and a wheechair user was waiting. It's tricky knowing whether to leave a space or not especially when my life is so much easier using them.
Oh, I do have a BB by the way.Only 3% of those registered blind in the UK have zero vision.0 -
My OH is registered as partially sighted, and appears to have a degenerative eye condition similar to your own (apart from having other issues). He recieved a BB as he is on HRM/HRC DLA and our local council use this as part of their qualifying criteria.
Again, as his disability is "hidden", we often encounter hostility from others, despite the difficulties he faces in mobility - in its broader definition - not just ambulation.
I would not dream of (ab)using the BB if he was not present with me, as people with genuine difficulties often have trouble finding spaces as and when required.
I wish you luck, and wish some of the other posters a little more tolerance.
Thanks for the advice. From reading the booklet and a bit of research it looks like I could well qualify. However, it took several years of qualifying for DLA before I applied and I suspect it may be the same for this.
I know that some people do not understand how difficult it can be having a hidden disability. Unless someone has an obvious disability they feel they are time-wasters. A lovely counsellor on a helpline regarding my disability once told me to simply ignore intolerent people like that as there is a lot of prejudice out there, and I think that is sound advice.0 -

What criteria is this please? I also have a degenerative eye condition. (not RP)Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

This isnt the case in my town dont dispute your own
At a rough guess
Tesco have 11-12 spaces out of around 100+ not sure what is like under the store car park but they must be at least another 50 odd spaces
Sainsburys have around 20 out of around 400 spaces
Morriosons I say 25 out of around 400 spaces
B&Q 2 out of around 100 (both nearly always used)
I have problem parking in town too sometime have to drive all way around town centre twice to find a space this includes areas on yellow lines where people park
There simple inst enough space for disabled in my town it gets 10x worse in weekends and summer as its sea side resortyeah
in contrast, my local shaw trust has 1 disabled parking space, 1! if anyone here knows what the shaw trust do - then think how laughable that is.
the local supermarket has about 40 disabled spaces! they take up about a 6th of the supermarket car park. i can see that maybe there are too many it encourages non-disabled people to use them because there are always quite a few free0 -
When my daughter got BB 3 years ago she was refused it along with DLA. We appealed on both counts and won she gets high rate mobility and low care. She also gets taxi to college partly funded by county council she pays part of of DLA she doesnt have any income at all @ 190

i think you are loosing the direction of my concern...i think blue badges are missused not who is more needy than whoever and who gets what ...looks like you are stiring trying to get me to bite so the rest of the sheep will pounce on me :rotfl:
not at all, i was making the point because you made it sound as if others with the previously mentioned problems cant and dont have mobility issues
point being you dont have to have something actually physically wrong with your legs to have mobility problems (which is why people with various problems get low rate dla mobility for help)2 esa medicals passed successfully (support group - it can be done!!)!! :j0 -

you are very right it seems a very bonded group of users regardless of what is being said...but round hole square peg and all that :rotfl:
water off a ducks back;) the thing is i know ways to help some of these people but i dont think they will talk to me in the future..... because i see running as a sign that mobility is not a issue:D regardless of what other disability issues ive encountered:)....
had to do an edit 5 people thanked my posts ! how do i see who they are ?
I think that mobility is more than ambulation, as those with sensory/perceptual issues will attest.
Also, working in mental health, I see people who literally are paralysed by fear when feeling too far away from their vehicles (that feel safe and secure), and as often, disabled bays are closest to shops and services that we all need to access, they have as much need of proximity as those with physical disabilities.
BTW, to check who has thanked you for posts, check the end of the post you added, and click on "show me"0 -

I think the unable to walk criteria could well apply as I find it difficult to walk up and down stairs and to walk safely in dark car parks. However, I think I will wait a while before applying so I can see how I feel about it.
My other alternative is to wait until I next go to Moorfields to see if I would be registered blind and then I would automatically get one.0 -
once again no.....what i am saying is people who can run because they dont want to get wet or are able to c walk for hrs really dont need to park in b/b spaces ...you like to wander from the point to try to make one
im not trying to wander from any point.. im trying to explain that clearly, people can have mobility needs without having something actually specifically wrong with there legs.
applying that upward a bit, people can/should qualify for a blue badge for things other than that.
take my nan for example, she had dementia so had a blue badge because she got so confused (age didnt help either) when she was out it was a case of get in-get out as soon as possible.
remember, i dont want to apply to use it in disabled bays, same as my nan.. i think it would be most useful to me to use on single and double yellow lines where the nearest car parking space might be much much more than an extra 20 meters away.
literally, having one would save me walking through the whole of town.. a very uncomfortble experience for me
i agree with you in the sense i would feel bad at using one at a supermarket car park (etc etc) where they are limited - like i said before, if anything, parking further away would help me there so i can prepare myself for it first
like i say, it has nothing to do with disabled bays for me.. more the ease of being able to park really close to places in urban areas (the nearest car park to the pharmacy, hairdressers, specsavers etc is ages away but there is road outside which we could park safely on without blocking trafic, but its all, everywhere single or double yellows )2 esa medicals passed successfully (support group - it can be done!!)!! :j0
