HTC Desire Deal/Flash Query

Dear all,

I am in a dilemma as mentioned previously i just bought an HTC Desire on a pay monthly.

I am currently with o2 and have 3 months left, however i don't think they will give any great offers :-).

T-mobile offered me,

900 Mins
Unlimited Texts
3GB web allowance
Free Voicemail
£30 Credit to pay for my first month! as i will be moving my number

24 month contract- is this a good deal?

I've seen on mobilephones direct for £25

600 mins
Unlimited texts

If i was to ring up T-mobile to would i still have to pay £5 for the web booster. Ive read T-mobile are giving the booster free of charge.. I don't know if i should cancel and wait until anything new comes out?

I also have a friend working in Orange, at the moment i know they are out of stock, but is it true Orange handsets have problems when i mean the HTC Desire?

Also i tried playing fifa world cup highlights video on the bbc website, it wouldn't work?? this was through WIFI is this normal? Or is it because the network can't handle the website?

Also can the desire do voice to text? and HD Video?>

  • I have just got my new HTC desire from Vodafone.

I managed to get them down to £25 per month for an 18 month contract with 600 mins and unlimited texts which for Vodafone is pretty good.

PS. I get excellent streaming video on the BBC iplayer through the Vodafone network - the best I've ever had.
It's only rock 'n' roll, but I like it.

i dont think the bbc iplayer is on the market for android 2.1. the iplayer will be officially available for 2.2 froyo. how ever for 2.1 you have the unofficial beebplayer.

if you meant the official iplayer for 2.1 android, then were did you get it from.

Wow!! thats incredible with total cost of ownership being £450. They wouldn't budget from £35 for 18 but I have yet to speak to any of their retention team as my contract expires early August. Did you haggle a lot? Any tips much Appreciated.

You can definitely get a free voice 2 text app. It also does voice Google search and voice Google SatNav.

Some of the highlights do not work on the phone. Most do- I've streamed news and other sports clips, and indeed no problem with F1 stuff but the World Cup stuff doesn't work too well. I wonder if it is due to content restrictions from Fifa?

Text to speech is there. I have a text to speech for Google voice search, navigation address search can be spoken and Handcent SMS (the app I use for texts) can take your message via Voice recognition. I think the Desire does HD video, but not 100%.

The downside with T Mobile (which may or may not bother you) is that it costs more for people to call you, this is how they make their money. I don't know if this is still up to date so might be worth checking.

Three are worth looking at, my wife got a good deal on the HTC Desire with them at £20 per month, nothing to pay towards the phone, just a £1.50 admin fee for moving her number across.

I wouldn't bother with O2, I don't know what's with them at the moment but their deals aren't as good as the other networks and their customer service has dropped considerably in the past 12 months or so. I'm still with them but unless they buck up, I'll be moving away at next renewal. My wife has already moved from O2 to Three. I also have mobile broadband with Three. Although Three have foreign call centres, I've actually found their service to be surprisingly good. Their coverage is the same as O2, they buy it wholesale from the O2 network.

Thanks for the headups, tried F1 but it kept saying adobe flash- this flash content is not supported. Do you think when 2.2 is launched this will fix all the minor Flash Glitches.

Also is there any good SMS apps that save drafts? and power saving one's would be greatful to know.

Am i on a good deal or is it bad?

Try Handcent as your SMS app. It's a ot more customiseable than the stock messaging app, and allows drafts etc. Best of all it's FREE - so give it a go, if you don't like it, you can always uninstall.
The only other SMS app that I've tried is SMS Popup. To be honest, I found Handcent and SMSpopup to be much of a muchness...personal preference with Handcent I suppose
