Provided 2 or more of the roadwheels are NOT touching the tarmac (towing dolly or trailer), and providing the driver doing the towing has a license that allows him or her to tow a trailer, and providing the car doing the towing has a kerbside weight that is equal to or greater than the vehicle doing the towing - yes you may tow it home.

    Or with a rope.

If you tow with a rope then the car being towed has to have insurance, tax, MOT, and a licensed driver at the wheel.

It's your choice, but you could find yourself in a whole world of pain if some jobsworth traffic cop stops you.

Which is exactly what I said in post #5 of this thread.:D

Just drive it. Its a none- endorsement offense (so no points, just a slap on the wrist) or as has been suggested, book it in for an MOT, take it, it fails, drive it home. Job done.

However if the officer then checks and finds out you didn't go, you're in for "perverting the course of justice" which is a proper criminal offence.

What, because it developed a problem enroute?

    Don't be silly.

Well, it's certainly in my T&Cs.

It might say that in the policy but the Ombudsman has specific rules on this and not having an MOT would not neccessarily invalidate a policy. It would basically depend on whether the car being "Unroadworthy" contributed to the accident.

the mot is only aplicable at the time of test.

book the car in for an mot to cover yourself but the journey has to be a reasonable route (ie. the mot sation is past your destination)

towing a vehicle, the towing vehicle can only tow 75% of it's maximum permitted weight (max vehicle weight) if you want to tow any higher then the vehicle must be braked. another way round this is to have the engine running on the otwed car adn the driver use the brakes.

forget a rope for towing get one of the solid bars from machine mart. around £15 and a little more stable than a rope
