Hi Everyone, I get my Ham hock @ the 'Hot Food' counter in Tesco, its very tasty and handy as a snack/sandwich. Also great to add to soup veggies in the Crockpot...but when soup is ready, take out the ham and remove/discard skin and the meat will flake off and put back in the soup. And the dog gets a huge bone to chew on!0

Morrisons sell Hocks.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0

I just rinse them, sprinkle with brown sugar or honey, wrap in tin foil and bake till cooked.0

This sounds amazing! Unfortunately where I live we don't have a butcher, just a Tesco, I presume they wouldn't do it as I've never seen it in there. Anyone bought ham hocks from Tescos before??
I've had them from the butcher counter in Tesco.
Soozg, if you're buying the cooked ham shank, you've already lost a lot of the stock, although they do taste delish. Better to cook your own then you get all the stock, and then pop it in the oven to finish it off.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0 -

What she said, but I add butter beans and celery as well. It's delicious.
In fact I was wondering what to cook for tea...Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times and I'll smash your face in.0 -

I buy them in the evening when they're reduced to 99p. Great for sandwiches. But if I want to make soup/stock I buy a fresh one from Morrisons.0 -
I am looking to get a ham hock to make a huge pot of soup with. Will I find this in the likes of Asda or Sainsburys or do I need to go to my local butchers?

They sell them in Morrisons for £1.49, they're at the butchers counter. Haven't seen them in Tesco, and our local butchers doesn't sell them at all!0

Thanks for that. Most of my butchers are halal butchers and don't serve any pork at all.0
