lol, i tried all that, comet dont care about the sale of goods act, all they are interested in is their company policy, i threatened them, i repeated the sale of goods act word for word to them on the phone, i did the same to the manager/team leader, they believe they are above the law it seems, and all the comet rep is doing is attempting to remove the criticism from the public arena , comets policy is not to admit anything or pay out on anything until it gets to court and they have no choice, disgusting behaviour from a multi million pound company

Thanks, did you go to court??

Well had a call from Comet after writing to their managing director. Comets policy is that they can only deal with the part they supplied i.e. monster power surge protector. Consequential loss however as part of this equipments failure has to be done direct between the customer and the manufacturer.

They have said they will keep monitoring the situation however

What does this "monitoring of the situation" mean?

Did you extended warranty cover the lightening or not? If not Comet do not have to pay up. They are not responsible for replacing the monster part either as it did not fail, it got fried by lightening. Monster are liable to replace the TV etc connected to it.

However a lot of these companies like monster ask you to post your tv etc off to them usually overseas and the costs of postage is prohibitive so usually not worth putting in the claim, unless they pay for collect and return carriage.

Moral of the story is to know what you are buying. Most companies will try to get out of paying if they can and are adept at lying to do this. The most common phrase they use these days to get out of paying is "this item has been abused" so your warranty or extended warranty is not worth jack. Asda did this to me when I tried to return a faulty DVD player and then threatened to call the police when I kicked up a fuss and other customers started listening in.

We did take out the extended warranty and part of this as advised by Comet was to buy this Monster Surge protector, otherwise, if the unlikely hood of having our equipment damaged by lightening we wouldn't be covered. Then we get a surge by lightening and read in the small print we are not covered. So I feel I was sold something incorrectly, however, how to prove it.

School boy error from not reading the small print I guess.

    Hi JokerDurden

I have been continuing to follow this situation and understand that my colleague Jeremy is in direct contact with yourself and Monster, to have this matter resolved to your satisfaction.

Please be assured that we will continue to monitor the situation so that this issue can be resolved as quickly as possible. I have also forwarded a copy of your details to the Regional Manager to investigate internally as to why the store did not take ownership when this was brought to their attention and take the matter up on your behalf with the manufacturer directly.

  • I think the general point here is that comet should be solving these issues to start with; they shouldn’t be waiting until someone takes them public and there is a risk of damaging their reputation before they put them right.
Comet should be doing what they can to solve these problems STRAIGHT AWAY, which clearly they are not doing. The store staff don’t have sufficient knowledge of policies and procedures to the extent that I (and it appears many others) are told one thing in store and then something completely different when talking to a representative by phone or email.

Well its a day short of 2 months since the surge protector failed to work. To be honest I've had regular contact from Comet HQ to see as to its progress but this Monster Company have yet to pick up the protector for testing and seem reluctant to answer my emails.

Haven't pursued legal matters yet even though I sent all the correct letters (14 days notice to respond and then 14 days before legal action). Seems as though this monster company are not interested and Comet are now only interested after this is being made public.

    Completely lost all faith.

Just read through this one, typical disgusting behaviour by a company who just cares about their bottom line.

Monster has been around for years making tat, I wouldn't go near their stuff, it even looks like something knocked up in a garden shed.

    Good luck with these people.
