There is a thread on the Freebies board about getting free SIM cards, I am pretty sure Orange ones are on there. Tried pasting a link once but it didn't work, so it is old fasioned going-to-look i'm afraid!

Good luck with it, you have taken steps in the right direction!

If it's just two of you, you should be able to cut the food down to about £120. (yes, really!)

I lived on no more than £60 a month for quite a few months, including my cat and cleaning stuff, so it can be done.

The old style board can help with recipe ideas, but basically you need to cook from scratch and learn to like cheap stuff!

The nights out really must go. Go out once a month and spend no more than a tenner, again I did this and you can do it although it is a bit miserable.

Your OH needs to think about getting a full time supermarket job or something, so you have regular money and can budget. Can you also consider babysitting for extra cash? Ironing for people?

What about getting a lodger? Is that possible? Because I did that and got £350 a month tax free which was great.

I also rented out my garage - for £45 a month. Can you do that?

Are you able to make things to sell? People pay good money for cakes for example, or for alterations to clothes.

Start thinking 'outside the box' at ways to bring money in.

I'm sure someone good with figures will be along soon to talk snowballing - I'm not very good at that side of things.

Chin up girl - it can be done. There's loads of us on here who have done it and you'll be one of them too!!

Hi there, firstly wanted to say hello and send a big hug to you as you sound like you needed one.:grouphug:

Re the locked phone to Orange, there is a thread of 'free unlock codes' where a very helpful person on the boards will send you the instructions on how to unlock your mobile, they helped me, perhaps this will help.

Secondly on the 'oldstyle board' there are loads of ideas for menu planning and money saving in the food area, I've been batch cooking meself which is (for me) messy but great fun.

Cutting your supermarket shop down to minimum and buying food from markets is cheaper.

Can you sell any of your unused stuff on ebay?

Anyway just wanted to say a big welcome, well done for posting, I know its hard, Triker :hello:

  • If you're crafty then think about making your Xmas presents this year to save more money - the old style board will have tips.

Have you thought about signing up for mystery shopping? Completing surveys online (slow for getting money coming in but every little helps), Quidco is a good one too.

  • I have been making photo scrapbooks for pressies this year, so yes that is on the list for crimbo this time around. I plan to make some calenders this year to ring the changes!!
I will have to take a peek at the crimbo pressy ideas on the OS board. I wouldnt have a clue what to do for a man!!!

I also have just signed up for greasy palm, may have to have a look at quidco.

Thanks for the ideas, every little one is helping.
  • Can you make anything you could sell, like cards, calenders, jewellery? You would possibly to do better not selling on ebay though, there seems to be quite a bit on there.
