O2 have refunded me twice

It's for them to come and ask you, not for you to do their admin/bookeeping for them. Until you hear from them forget about it.
There is no way your credit record will get blackened over this.
Your comments regarding people replying in line with their personalities is spot on (as is your comment that maybe some replies are from people who don't actually know the correct answer).
What he said.
I wouldn't say a word.... don't touch the extra £253 in case they do ask for it back and you can just play dumb and pretend you never even realised it had been paid.
People saying "O2 will definately spot this".... how do they know unless they work for O2? I once ordered a mobile from O2 and they sent me two of themThey never spotted that.

Hi Guys, thanks for the prompt replies at such a late hour!!
its not a case of me losing sleep, more just needing a definitive answer in where I officially stand on this issue, if there is no chance of it affecting my credit file I am happy to play dumb and wait for them to contact me, if they usually spot these errors then I would just pay it back straight away.simple as that from my point of view.
mobilejunkie, I agree regarding the sometimes well intentioned bad advice in offer, although one should never take what they read on here as 100%
Its worrying that people are silly of members dish out advice on topics they dont really know about, surely if you don't know, you should simply dont say anything instead of confusing matters.
lets be honest this is only a trivial matter of a mobile refund so it no biggie either way, but although i don't come on here much on a more serious note I have seen in the past the most absurd and out right incorrect advice given by some members on the house buying and selling message board, i mean seriously terrible advice than could really land people in trouble/lose money, I work in the property business (i know i know :-) so I do know my stuff in that area and seen some frightening advice given, but how do you stop idiots posting, after all no one should take it as a given what another member says, but this is even harder when you get some of the uppity martinlewisexperts, who have read his book twice and now as a result are financial experts or act and claim to be on all matters money related. they refuse to even be corrected, I have tried on a couple of the house buying threads where I know 150% what the other guy was saying was definitely wrong, but as we see very often with all the arguments, between people who most of the time dont really know as much as they let on, they cant be corrected.
I really like this website, the articles and some info is hard to be found elsewhere its a great resource, but the reason i dont come on often is because of the bickering between the moral high ground taking so called experts, makes me a bit nausous when you know they are wrong.some go way overboard with the martin lewis stuff, it even seems to me that some dont even live in the real world, i mean i am all up for saving a bit of coin where i can, but some of these (who have read the book twice) really do go a bit too far, like silly things like how to save 3p a year by re-cycling bin bags - god sake get a life buy some more bin bags - poor example
anyway thanks for the info guys. take care0 -
o2 have a policy of taking a full month's line rental on the last bill when a contract is cancelled (even though they know that the last monthly rental due will not be for a complete month).
They then produce a final bill (which would include any charges not included in the rental). If the customer ends up with a credit as a result of the overpaid rental, this will be shown on the bill.
That is the end of the matter unless the customer then contacts them again (using his own expense and time) and points out he is in credit. Only then do they refund the credit owed!
Hi Quentin, thanks for the info, well what you mention above is basically what happened, i rang to terminate the contract in may, i got a final bill amount through, this was then added to my normal bill charges for the upcoming month, so my bill for june 2nd (my billing date) was 253, this included the termination amount plus my normal monthly bill in one.
because I had paid twice by 2nd june it showed i was in credit by 253 pound on my account, although it had a none active status at this point, once the refund came through the account closed altogether and has been replaced by my pay as you go number according to my online O2 account. since then I have checked my credit file, and the O2 contract is no longer open, it is now showing as settled0 -
I wouldn't endorse some of Martin Lewis's advice (and I'm afraid I haven;t read his book once that alone twice) - far from it. I do stick with what I know about and have clearly stated what your position is - as has Quentin now and one or two others. The rest is your own judgement!0
