Sounds like you work for O2. Who would care if it's less hassle for them and what has a credit file got to do with the price of bread???0

He said he was worried about his credit file, and if he tries to ignore it then it will start to show as unpaid on his credit file, only trying to help the guy.0 -
Wait for o2 to bill you its thier error..."less hassle for you, o2 & your credit file"
1) less hassle to call o2 and sort another of thier meses up, on your time ?
2) Your credit file would not be affected unless you refused to pay - o2 employee misleading you to fear to pay thier employer ?If I helped or saved you money - Thank me
If I helped you spend some money - spank me
If I done both - :lipsrseal me:eek:0 -
mind you saying that I had a ex singlepoint account on my credit file for over 4 years past when I termed all because they owed me a credit. They will come for the money so save hassle.0

Hi All
Thanks for the opinions, i will try to answer your questions
I was on contract with O2 but decided to get a termination amount in May, so I could sell my Iphone 3gs on ebay at a better price before the new iphone came out in June. I did this before the £20 O2 upgrade offer became available so not really an option.
I am currently now on pay as you go with O2 and have been since end of May, I have no intention of taking another contract with anyone or O2, it was costing me too much for the amount I use it, instead I am now on O2 text and web and its suits me far better and is only £10 a month.
looking at my updated credit file as of today my O2 contract account is now showing as settled, it shows as being settled on 2nd of june, this is the date my contract ended as this was my billing date - it just took them a month to actually get the refund to me.
Looking at my O2 account online, it now shows as my contract number and account is now inactive and on the billing link it says the balance is zero and no amount is due. my account has now been replaced by the pay as you go
To be honest I am thinking of just ringing them and paying it back to save any hassle.
but if my credit file is showing as settled, can they ever open this up again later and issue defaults without me knowing?0 -
No. All this about credit file damage is ridiculous. Your credit file is only affected IF they invoice you and THEN you don't pay.0

mobilejunkie thanks for your reply regarding the credit report issue, to be honest the credit report issue is the only issue I have because I am applying for a mortgage shortly and am currently sorting my finances ready for this.
as you point out there has indeed been people mentioning damage to my credit file, although you say they cannot do this (unless I refuse to pay, which if they contact me, I will pay straight away) I am still in need of an official stance on weather on not they can do this, not that I don't believe you, but others have stated the opposite.
I find it strange that on a website geared up towards all things money there isnt a definitive answer in the articles or message board, many of the posters here are 100 times more financial savvy than your average joe and it would appear some near financial experts also post here, yet opinion is split on a simple question like a credit report? or am i missing something? is there no definitive answer, is it just luck if they chase me or not? so this is why we have the split opinion based on peoples personal experiences? or could it be that some members are posting on topics they are not really 100% sure of? who knows it hard to tell
Another thing to consider in the replies is peoples personalities, some are the fearful type who would always pay it back, other carefree and would just let it be and see what happens, you cant tell on a message board advice
I know the moral thing to do is pay it back straight away (before the martinlewisexpert brigage jump on me LOL) but I just feel a bit like saying tough luck after the service they gave me and taking a month to do a refund that i am sure can be done in 3 to 5 days if they wanted to.
Anyway I will be ringing O2 1st thing in the morning to pay it back.
not worth the bother for the sake of a few quid
Many thanks for your help0 -
It seems you will lose sleep if you don't call them. There are many on here who (even with the best intentions) do not give good advice e.g. "cancel the dd" in various circumstances is terrible advice and would lead to a potentially ruined credit reference. You are correct about the personalities too - but many really don't know what they are talking about. I would never risk my own credit file, but I definitely wouldn't ring them! As for the moral argument; would they rush to repay an overcharge unless you contected them to demand it back? I think not! I am also pretty financially savvy!0

It's for them to come and ask you, not for you to do their admin/bookeeping for them. Until you hear from them forget about it.
There is no way your credit record will get blackened over this.
Your comments regarding people replying in line with their personalities is spot on (as is your comment that maybe some replies are from people who don't actually know the correct answer).0 -

o2 have a policy of taking a full month's line rental on the last bill when a contract is cancelled (even though they know that the last monthly rental due will not be for a complete month).
They then produce a final bill (which would include any charges not included in the rental). If the customer ends up with a credit as a result of the overpaid rental, this will be shown on the bill.
That is the end of the matter unless the customer then contacts them again (using his own expense and time) and points out he is in credit. Only then do they refund the credit owed!0
