Replaced exhaust but it sounds very loud, Need advice

On Saturday our exhaust sounded very blowy and as our journey progressed it got louder and louder until eventually we heard a clunk where something had fell off. We called our recovery company who sent a guy who patched it up so we could drive home. He said it looked like the Cat had fell off but it hadn't corroded or worn and had just come away with nothing to attach it to.
I took it to an exhaust specialist who said it need a middle and back box and would cost £105. So we went ahead and had 3 new tyres fitted which it also needed and had it tracked and balanced.
When i went to pick it up i thought it sounded very loud obviously not as loud as when it was faulty but louder than it had been initially.
I want to know if i should take it back to the original garage because it definately doesn't sound right its just so loud, or if i should take it elsewhere to diagnose a 'problem' first then take it back to rectify it.
I really have no clue with this sort of thing. Its an 03 Renault Scenic and has done 69k miles in case its a common problem. I have the receipt which has a long list of all the small parts the needed to sort the problem if thats any help.
Any advice much appreciated.

That was quite cheap for a middle and back box. Some aftermarket replacements are just noisy, unfortunately. Same thing happened to me with a Megane Hatch. I took it back to the fastfit place. They put it on the lift, poked around, found no leaks at all, pretty much just shrugged. I put up with it until it needed replacing again then went somewhere else.0

Thanks for that I think i'll take it back just to have a poke too. If something does or doesn't come up at least its been checked.
The same company replaced an exhaust on my old old car gave me brilliant advice and weren't salesy at all. I never had any problems with the last repair and have recommended them to many people who have never had problems either. Hopefully its just a loud exhaust.0 -
Just drive down your street with your foot to the floor in low gear - instant method of endearing yourself to your neighbours, especially at 3am.0

Name them? I'm giving evens on Nationwide, 3/4 on KwikFit.
Louder = cheaper parts.0 -
It may sound louder than normal until it has had a chance to fur up a bit. With use, it will develop a lining of soot which will deaden the noise.
Of course, it may just be a poor design, or fitted badly.0 -
Sorry to hijack the tread... Anyway, as it's on the subject. I had a new exhaust fitted to my 206 two weeks ago (back box, middle pipe and front pipe). Bog standard replacement due to corrosion. Got home and decided to have a look under the car at my shiny new exhaust with the engine running. Noticed some water/liquid dripping out the link between the back box and middle pipe. Thought nothing of it as it was new and just fitted so thought it was to do with that. Looked again the other day after washing car and noticed it's still doing this. Should I take it back for them to check that it's fitted right or is this correct? Cheers0

Same thing happened on my OH's car - also a Megane hatch. There are no leaks but every time someone gets in the car they comment on the nose. Its just a cheap exhaust, I though it might get quieter after a while (this sometimes happens) but after two years there has been no improvement.0

It is only normal condensation, but it shouldn't really leak out of that joint. It does indicate it isn't quite sealed.
It will corrode a little and seal eventually so the choice is yours. On the positive side when I see that I think "oh well, at least the water hasn't got to settle in the backbox and rot that away";);)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
So they sold you an exhaust, 3 new tyre's and tracking? God they must be making a killing!!!
As soon as someone tells me I need something new I go somewhere else for another opinion!!
And if they try to check my tracking I ask them to show me the manufacturers recommended spec (all cars are different).
Did they try to tell you your brakes and shocks needed changing?
Did they happen to mention how much a new CAT would cost?
Did they hit the CAT at all, while it was still hot?
Did they ram a long screw driver down through the ceramic inside the CAT when you weren't looking?
  “I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Surprised it wasnt brakes and shocks too...:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Please don't be offended if that opinion differs from yours, but feel free to click the 'Thanks' button if it's at all helpful!0
