Hi Techie's
I think my computer is finally on it's last legs  I am looking for a replacement quickly (every day it struggles!) because I feel it could go any moment.
I use it for the usual, mail, surfing, chatting and games (just point and click type)
It is 8yrs old, runs hot most of the time and fairly noisy (cleaned and checked) I am not tecnical so cannot consider doing any thing to it myself and only understand laymans' terms
Do you think this one would serve my purpose?
Forgot to mention, I also use for music, and photo's.
If I opted for a laptop, would I still be able to use printer, scanner with it (enough usb's)
Another option http://www.johnlewis.com/230952919/Product.aspx
Thanks

That one would be great for what you use it for, yep. It'll last you a good few years too. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0

Which one Weegie?0

Ah, I opened this tab before you edited.

Both would be good, the laptop would probably be a little faster.
you'll be able to use any printers, scanners etc that would would before. If it doesn't have enough USB ports it's a case of spending a few quid on a USB hub. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
Hi there, this MSI laptop from Argos clearance was posted on another thread, just over £300 so a fair bit cheaper than John Lewis and the specs are better too!
Useful is beautiful0 -
It's also refurbished, which isn't ideal.
Also, saying it's better spec is a bit off, the i3 will trounce this thing in speed terms. It's got more drivespace and a bluray drive, but you have to ask yourself just how useful a bluray drive is on a laptop, especially on a screen that only does 1366x768.
Refurb with an imo useless bluray drive and more drive space (which is its only advantage as far as i'm concerned) or a brand new, faster laptop. I know which one I'd choose. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -

I 'spose, but there is an HDMI output so it could be connected to a HD TV for the blu-rays and it has 2gb more ram than the Toshiba, thats gotta compensate a little for a slightly older processor! Fair enough it is a refurb but (although it doesnt say it does) I would bet its got a years warranty and should be more than adequate for the OP's modest needs plus its almost £100 cheaper.

I wouldnt worry about a bluray drive, pretty useless on a laptop or a desktop pc! Nice to have but wouldnt be worried if it didnt, easily do without one.
Would also say 2Gb ram far to low now days.
This is would be a good alternative

Thanks guy's
You have given me food for thought!
Trebor, there has been a lot of negs about Acer's which makes me nervous.
I do like the 2yr guarantee from JL
The one from Argos seems fine (and cheaper) what exactly does refurb mean? How old is the computer to start with etc.
Decisions decisions.

refurbished = second hand but fixed
although may be pretty new - used but returned quickly due to possibly customer dislike but more likely due to the computer being faulty (and now fixed)0 -

No, you are wrong. Most returns are no fault returns. But they cannot be returned to be sold as new. So they are checked and cleaned and sold as refurbished.
Most arrive in pristine condition. If not, send it back for a refund.0
