Avon is originally an American company, and if you know anything about the American business mind, they are very big on business statements like this. I don't mean to offend any Americans, but I have always been amused by the American business mind, as they do talk big and think big.
Yeah, when I was signed up the ASM said, as soon as she got the literature out, "It's a bit cheesy..." Like a warning before we started to go through it.
The blog post I read on connects seemed to be saying that left-brained characteristics only lead to conformity. It was saying you had to go to the other extreme rather than, like you say, striking a balance between the two and using your imagination to expand your business. I was reading through the left-brained list going, "Yes, I'm that...and that... and that..." And for nearly every point I could say how it helps with Avon. "order/pattern perception" - recognising patterns in what your customers order, being able to suggest other things to them, relevant samples etc. "Forms strategies" - planning which roads are on current or backorder, spending as little on books as possible so I can still cover my territory in a campaign.
I know Avon have to sell the idea of being a rep to you, making it look shiny and wonderful all the time, so they put more emphasis on the creative, imaginative side of things rather than the "boring" (as you may have guessed, I like it) admin side of things. I came onto this thread before I put any books out, so I was warned, but the amount of books I lost and having to put reminders out was still surprising. I still haven't had to deal with a spillage, out of stock items, or non-paying customers - but I know it can happen thanks to threads like this where people can air their grievances.
I used to have my Avon turnover (sales) here. They've been removed because it's not appropriate to talk about those kinds of sales as if they're realistic for a new Rep to aim for.I signed up at the right time, right place, and was very lucky.

I did read a post on connects about someone who had joined a group as a customer and had been contacted by another rep asking if she wanted to see a book. I forsee a lot of poaching to follow. Hopefully none of my customers will join this fiasco. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

And me personally, I like the fact I can have my blog through Avon
I was thinking of doing one summing up every campaign - what was popular, reviews of any products I got for myself. To make it "customer-proof" I'd have to only review products I liked and not mention the campaign number. If I took a picture of the order all laid out I'd also remove any feminine care products, since that's potentially embarrassing.I used to have my Avon turnover (sales) here. Hey ladies... i had a promo idea...For my next campaign, I thought i could send both my c15 and c14 books out and put a flyer in saying "order more than £5 from the old catalogue and £5 new catalogue and recieve a free gift"... what are your views on this??!! Also, would it affect my smart start if my order came from both catalogues rather than just c15??0

Am hoping that you helplful lot can assist. This is my first campaign and I am due to put my order in on Tuesday, have managed to get over £300 so am realllly pleased!!!
Anyway, I haven't had any training on the system yet from my ASM and when I went on to Connect yesterday to register myself it kept coming up saying that the date of birth I put in doesn't match Avon's records. Much as I would love to be a different age (younger preferrably!!) I am not and the DOB I'm inputting is correct. What can I do? I can only assume that my ASM has given Avon the wrong DOB when she first registered my account, but I can't get hold of her (to be fair she had explained that she had a family funeral to attend and it may be hard toget hold of her) and I am panicking that it won't be sorted out in time for me to place my order. Gulp!!
On another topic, can someone explain a bit more about how backordering works? I have canvassed my own street and was told I could canvass around MIL's area. If I have to put in my C15 order on Tuesday how do I go about re-using the C15 books to canvass other streets? When do you put in the order - is it with C16 orders or do I put in a seperate one and then pay the delivery charge?
Also, I had a customer ask me if they could order a lipstick they had seen their friend with. It was from a sale brochure, was silver coloured and the shade they wanted was Natural Glisten. They couldn't tell me how much it was or anything but their friend was going to ask her rep to order her two more so I assume it may still be available? Any idea how I would go about this as I would really like to be able to impress the customer - particulalry as it is my first time as a rep.
One more (sorry about the length of post!) - another customer asked if Avon sell colour correction cream - you know the stuff that you put on under foundation to tone down the redness - I couldn't see anything and wondered whether you lovely people could suggest a product?
Finally can I please thank you all for the wonderful hints and tips I have received on this thread - it has made everything much clearer!!0 -
