  • Sorry you've had problems emuk, think everythings gone pear-shaped with the launch of Avon Connect yesterday. Do hang in there - you've done really well with that volume of orders from F&F.

If all else fails, perhaps your sales leader can add your order to hers and pass on the discount?

Hope it all sorts itself out and welcome to Avon.

  • I haven't registered online with the tax man yet, am waiting to see how I do in this camapign to see if I'll keep doing Avon. Wanted to pick some of your brains - How much tax do they take? Do you pay it monthly or yearly? Sorry for asking what are probably daft questions...

Not sure what to do about Connects at the moment. I've read a few threads on there where people are holding off telling their customers about it because they feel it's too open and things like creative ordering are being discussed.

I don't think I've ever seen references to creative ordering or backordering on the official Avon site. The SL I saw mentioned them both to me and told me another trick I wouldn't have thought was allowed but apparently so! (I won't do it unless to hit MOV). But any higher up than SLs and the "creative" side to being a rep isn't spoken of. And then the official site also glosses over books not being left out on time, lots of walking around in all weathers, non-paying customers, difficult customers etc... Somewhere in the official literature it's described as glamorous but, as much as I make an effort to be neat and don't do my rounds in a tracksuit and trainers, it's hard to feel glamorous with a pen between your teeth, a clipboard between your legs, trying to prise open someone's letterbox to put a reminder slip in.

I think Avon's taken the same idealised approach to Avon Connects and not stopped to think that reps will want to vent amongst themselves, discuss how to make more money (and not just from selling more items). I decided just to have a public front on there and not post anything about creative ordering or backordering. But then if my customers sign up they might realise some of them are on current campaigns and some on backorders. I could be getting requests to move from current to backorder, or for a certain item to be ordered from a different campaign because it's cheaper. At best that messes up my system (which streets are on what campaign), at worst my customers think I'm cheating them.

So yes, I'd decided to play safe but other people are posting in threads customers can view so even if you keep schtum about things other people aren't.

Someone also raised the issue of your customer group being public.
I used to have my Avon turnover (sales) here. They've been removed because it's not appropriate to talk about those kinds of sales as if they're realistic for a new Rep to aim for. :( I signed up at the right time, right place, and was very lucky.

Oh and I found those business-guru-type blog posts quite irritating :D 'Think outside the box to achieve your dreams', 'let your imagination soar' - that kind of thing. I'm not quoting but they're probably pretty close. Oh, and then just forget being organised, punctual, strategic - not necessary to do Avon at all... ::rollseyes::

I, Geek, sorry your posts made me laugh.

Avon is originally an American company, and if you know anything about the American business mind, they are very big on business statements like this. I don't mean to offend any Americans, but I have always been amused by the American business mind, as they do talk big and think big.

On Facebook, some of my "Avon Friends" are from America, and when I see what they put on their FB wall about building your teams, etc, it is the same principle.

To be fair, yes to build your customer base, it is not always about territory, family and friends, yes you do need to "think outside the box" about how to get new customers, promote yourself.

Things like just talking to everyone you meet and asking them if they buy Avon, see an Avon book, etc.

I found a new customer through offering to donate some charity baskets, a mix of boots glitches to a fund-raiser she was doing, and she came to my home to collect the baskets and saw my Avon books.

But yes, everything else you said also is an essential part of Avon, but they aren't going to mention that as it is not a business strategy, that is just a given for running your own business.

Saying that I forgot to give two of my customers their free gifts last week :o . One is on holiday and I can't get hold of the other one.

And me personally, I like the fact I can have my blog through Avon, but the rest of Avon Connect, I find it too busy, too much going on, it gives me a headache every time I log on, so not sure how much I personally will use it.
