I am really excited to say that I became a rep on Friday and have done my first drop already - so far have orders of £32.24 from F&F so hoping to at least make MOV this campaign.

Had a quick question though, I have had the idea of going into the local nursing homes and asking whether they would be happy for me to come in and demonstrate the products to their ladies. what do you guys think? I already have one place definitiely lined up (hooray for family!) but thought I might just chance my arm with some others. Has anyone done this before and if so, what kind of reaction did you get?

    Hi Mona,

    Welcome!

My mum is in a n. home and some of the staff have been my customers for years. On my weekly visit to her I have a schedule of leaving (the back) catalogues (for at least 2 weeks!) collecting orders, delivering goods & collecting money. My mum helps me by being the pick up point. They love Avon & it works well. The catalogues get left in their staff room with lots of order forms.

I don't know about demonstrating though. They are really busy and their shifts are all over the place. Your best bet would be to get some kind of contact there who will help you (give them a discount or freebies). I doubt that a relative stranger would be allowed unrestricted access to the home - security etc.

Anyway, good luck. They are good orderers and deserve the lovely avon treats. Let us know how you get on.

Its £500 over the last 3 campaigns, and you have to have been a rep for 5 campaigns or more.

    Apparently launch is tomorrow!

Oooh Goodness, I'd better do the training then! Thanks for finding that out!
  • Thats too bad. I tried that night cream you linked, but it was nowhere near as good. Wonder why they discontinued it? :(

It goes along with the universal rule that anything which is any good has to be discontinued, or worse still 'IMPROVED' :rotfl:

  • I know everyone knows this but just as a reminder ...

Due to essential maintenance work to prepare for the launch of Avon Connects, the Avon website and fast trak telephone system will not be available from 11pm tonight until 6am tomorrow morning.
  • Hi all!

I've come here to get some hints and tips! I've recently joined avon and was given a few roads as territory yesterday. I was wondering if anyone had a standard sort of letter they would recommend using for the first visit for anyone who isn't in when I knock?

And anything else you think I would find useful would also very much be appreciated!!!

I was wondering if anyone had a standard sort of letter they would recommend using for the first visit for anyone who isn't in when I knock?

I did my first drop of brochures on a weekday afternoon and found that most people weren't in - I knocked on every door. Got about 5 answers out of 40-odd houses. I've started doing collections of brochures in the evening or on a Sunday afternoon (after 3pm) and have found I'm much more likely to catch people in. For the "drop" I tend to post and go, but for collection of brochures it's useful to be calling at a time when you can knock and ask for the brochure if people haven't left it out. I've recovered lots of brochures this way, saved a second trip out, and got an interested/not interested response out of people. The only places I knock if I'm doing a drop are bungalows/retirement developments, where people are more likely to be in (and more likely to say no in my experience, so I've saved some brochures).

I may have been doing this at the wrong time of year (holidays/back to school), but lots of people just haven't read it and some have told me they've been too busy. I'm going to start leaving brochures with people from Monday to Sunday so they're more likely to have some time to look at it.

On my leaflet that I put in with the brochure I mention the 90-day guarantee first (hoping people will buy full-size), then mention free samples, then best time for delivery, then "don't wish to receive again" with house number and street name spaces. A lot of people tick the box, but don't fill out their address, so when I'm collecting I check when I'm at the door so I can mark it off on my clipboard.

Yes, the "clipboard", which I know must look like I'm selling stuff (which I am, but the clipboard is just for my use). I found the calling book useless because you still need to lean on something. I printed out Excel tables but the ink ran in the rain, so I write everything out as I go and put it in Excel later.

I use highlighters a fair bit to highlight collection day on the order form, and the "do not wish to receive" bit.

You can fold a page in each brochure so that the corner with "half price" (or "free gift" etc) sticks out at the top when the brochure is closed. So far nobody has bought one of the offers I've folded over, but it lets me know whether it's been read. Again, this is something to take note of when you're at the doorstep collecting the brochure.

Good luck! And try not to be too disappointed if you get lots of "no thanks" and unread/unreturned books on a street. I've got one street with hardly any interested people and the other side of the road has 3 customers in a row, plus others interested. More seasoned Avon people will say the hardest part is the beginning, the canvassing bit that's time-consuming. So I'd get that done as quickly as possible, get your books back out as soon as you can after collecting them. It may be worth asking if you can get some brochures from the previous campaign (if you're in campaign 15 ask for campaign 14) to help you get through your canvassing in as few campaigns as possible.
I used to have my Avon turnover (sales) here. They've been removed because it's not appropriate to talk about those kinds of sales as if they're realistic for a new Rep to aim for. :( I signed up at the right time, right place, and was very lucky.
  • Hi all, thanks for the thread very informative, after living abroad for 3 years my hubby and I have just moved back to Wales and finding it hard to find jobs so i thought Avon might be a good way of making a little money, I am not naive enough to think that we can make a full time living off it but at the moment we have not money coming in so it would be an improvement.

Just a few questions if it is ok, my dad said he would take some of the Avon books into his work place someone used to do it but he was lazy and unreliable but he had about 12 customers there, they also said they would take it to a club they go to, plus i was thinking of doing the streets around my neighbourhood, so questions: do you get told what areas to do or can you choose? Do you have to pay for the books? If so what do you do if you want to give books to 3 or 4 streets plus different areas surely that would cost a lot? What if you spend money on the books (if applicable) and don't get enough orders to cover the costs? Also what is a realistic monthly figure to make? I know that would be hard as it probably varies quite a lot but i just wondered if there was a ball park figure

Sorry for all the questions but i am seriously considering this and would like to know a bit more about it before i sign up
