Its worth noting for self-employed people Avon or Otherwise, their is a three-month time limit from commencing business to register. If you notify HMRC late, you will probaly be given penalties. ;)
You can register here : http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/selfemployed/register-selfemp.htm
Dont forget if your self employed you can put every item of equipment associated with your business (known as assets) through your business from your car, to pc,printer, mobile phone.desk.chair,laptop,landline phone, etc etc.:)
fax machine
Mileage incurred whilst on business is allowable.:):)
An allowance is claimable for use of part of your home as an office area.:):):)
Then theirs all your business expenses.Parking ,Stationery,Products for demonstration, etc etc:):):):)
Their are considerable tax advantages to be had by being self employed with Avon or otherwise ,if you have a regular paye taxable job or pension as well.
Because the taxman allows you to offset your expenses against the tax you are paying now or have paid in the previous three years. So you get it back !!!:j0 -

I've never missed a campaign in 7 yrs even though the ice & snow were horrendous where I live (no grit at all). I feel it would be somehow disruptive and would maybe let my customers down as many rely on Avon for their regular supplies & I'd hate them to go to Tesco for them instead!
I've also always paid my NI and filled in a self assessment (I'm self employed & receive tax credits). For my own peace of mind I do everything by the book. (Not for one minute suggesting others' don't)
I agree about ALWAYS cheerfully returning stuff for customers. I've only had one customer 'abuse' this by returning a lipstick many years old & claiming she'd bought it from me (this was before we had the 90 day returns policy). The colour had been discontinued. Well I got her money back in the end but she never got another catalogue from me."Sometimes letting things go is an act of far greater power than defending or hanging on.”0 -
Help please!
Just got my delivery and a black SuperMagnify mascara that I ordered from HT13 is missing. It was part of my creative ordering so was in fact for a customer. It is showing on my online invoice but not on the paper invoice.
There is one 'item unavailable' but it only says 'Previous campaigns clearance items'. I'm not missing anything else so I'm assuming that it is referring to the mascara? What's the best way to get one? I've got until Thursday to come up with something before I have to go and see the customer.
What a good start for my second campaign/first customers!!!Mummy to Oliver - 28/10/09

Ok - just found another item missing which was a clearance item so by the looks of it, Avon are just being a pain in the backside as far as the SuperMagnify is concerned:mad:Mummy to Oliver - 28/10/09

Hi, I know this is no good for this time but I always order the clearance item plus the one in the campaign just in case the clearance one is sold out. I then do a credit for the brochure one if both turn upLife is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.0 -

Never thought about offering samples for sale.... Hmmmm... maybe worth some thought?
Sorry just catching up so this is about 4 pages too late ...
MC - absolutely brilliant brilliant idea! And the fragrance samples - my OH always has one with him in his pocket when we go out. And of course Christmas parties are the ideal time to start promoting this.
I can feel a leaflet coming on ......0 -

Thanks, AGF, that's all really useful information and probably explains why I was told what I was.
From what you say, seems actually ludicrous that HMRC would be interested in anyone only doing Avon on a part-time basis. By the time you take all those expenses into account then there's no way (least talking from my own experience) that there would be any 'profit' left to tax!Make the most of everything in life (especially Avon)

I think this is what it is for MC. Her circumstances may not be the same as the rest of us and we can't judge on that.
She has called the tax office and given her information and this is the information they have given her. If their information is wrong, that is their fault as she has done all the right things.0 -

You sure it was a SuperMagnify mascara you ordered as part of Creative Ordering? If so, I must've missed a trick!Thought these had only been in the brochures @ £5 each so far?
I have some black ones in stock (despite offering them to my customers @ £4 or £3.50 if they spent £10)- PM me with your details and I'll gladly get it in the post to you today. £3 inc. postage OK for you?
