Going with Virgin - Any general advice?

Hey all,

At our current house we're with Sky, who haven't been too bad for the past 4 years, but seem to enjoy messing us about now and again.
I'm moving into my own place for the first time and the missus and I will be needing high speed broadband as well as a phone line.
We've found a place that, amazingly, is only 3 doors down from a local exchange (:D), so we've decided to be 're-hymenated' and go back to Virgin. Specifically their 50mb setup, but seeing as I'm also an ex NTL customer, I remember being put through to their empolyees on a laptop in India sometimes had us pulling our hair out.

Any general advice from you other Virginites? Are you happy with their service? What's their 'put-on-hold' music like? Has their reliabilty improved since their NTL days?

And anyone have any advice as to what.. language.. should be used with them if they ever give us any trouble? Threats of small claims courts? Offcom? Trading standards? Cancellation?

Thanks! :)

We've been with them for 5 years, no problems at all. Spoke to someone yesterday and it was in this country.
Loved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!

Virgin runs on it's own cable network, so being 3 doors from the BT exchange will not get you any advantage. Depending on your exchange, you'd probably get a decent ADSL connection at that ditance, though obviously not 50 megs. But do you really need that speed?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Not had any major probs with them either.

Their picturebox service is worth subscribing to. You get an extemely good selection of 28 different films every month, updated weekly (for only £5 monthly). Much cheaper for me than subscribing to Sky movies, so that is something I'd recommend.

Been with Virgin for years, was an NTL customer.

Sometimes its annoying when you speak to someone who has no idea what you're telling them, but in terms of faults etc if you need someone to come out they're usually pretty quick at sorting that out.

Had an issue with my V+ box where it was loosing signal, had someone out the next day, replaced it with a brand new box. The box lasted quite awhile, 4 years.

Internet is pretty good as well.

Only annoying thing i have had recently is wanting to change my DD date, they cancelled the DD for me and i had to pay the bill over the phone, fine. But then they forgot to set it up again, so incured a £5 no DD charge on the next bill (but got that refunded in the end), then they set it up, but ended up for some weird reason using my old bank account details, that i haven't used for 5 years.

So had the hassle of having to get that DD cancelled and paying this mths bill over the phone, but its finally been re set up for my actual bank account i use.

I like the discounts i get as well, get like £21.50 a mth off or something like that and have TV XL, Broadband L, V+ box and 1 additional box.
