*sneaks in quietly*
Hi lovelies, Firstly, I hope you're all well and fabulous as ever. I've been so busy with this and that lately that fashion has been suffering, but I still have a nose through the blogs when I can. I just can't keep up with this thread!
I'm popping in to ask a bit of a cheeky favour...
My DH has just called to let me know he's won an award at work which means we are invited to a Black Tie Gala Dinner in just over a week (eek) I've never been to a BT do before and really want to get it right. LOST! Is this your area of expertise?
I do have a long black silk dress with subtle sequins at the front. It's pretty low cut though but might be able to sort that out. Does that sound the sort of thing? All this assumes it still fits, it was last worn on our wedding day! What about shoes, bags and accessories? Any other tips, behaviour wise (obviously I'm going to stay very sober!) It's a real big deal to DH so would really appreciate help.
Oh and it's an overnight stay so should I dress a bit smart to arrive and leave too or is casual acceptable?
Some of you might remember the TV wedding of DH's brother, well the Wedding House has started airing on ch 4 but they have been axed so if anyone's keeping an eye out for us - don't!0 -

you caught me popping in. Black and full length sounds safe enough: and as a occasional thing certainly suitable to not buy anything else! bag, as small as possible...a clutch to it your lipstick in. Personally I always arrive/leave looking quite casual..i.e. jeans and a smart top, shoes not trainers. These days ours are usually part of a two day break and I try to take just hand luggage. Last time for example, I wore jeggings and jewelled flip flops with a t shirt on the plane and swapped for a silk top on landing. I mix and matched this jegging and top thing, with two scarves..one silk one more substantial, and a cardigan for two days.

Thanks hun, I knew you would have experience! Will see what happens when I squeeze in it now, from memory it has a frill all theway down the front so will cover the fact that my tummy has grown at least, wish I hadn't put on quite so much weight on holiday now, but who can resist french food and wine lol!0

I'm sure it will be fine. If not Monsoon sale rails and TK Maxx are often sources of something. You can always take a stole/pashmina (in fact this time of year would be pretty important) if you feel a little exposed.0 -
Ooh vicki nice to see you
and I hope the 'do' goes well!
If anyone feels like throwing some "snap out of it" advice / sense my way please do! Feeling so miserable tonight despite everything iv said about being strong and not letting him get to me0 -

I'm not terribly good at "snap out of it" or advice, becasue I am a counsellor and we are not meant to do either, but it sounds like you could do with a huuuge :cuddle: for whatever it is, please be kind to yourself xx
I have been a bit of a Blue A*sed Fly today, but have managed to get lots done. Outfit wasn't terribly inspiring
-Mela loves london dress with cats(!) on- kind of navy/purple
- Leggings, similar, but slightly lighter colour (Zara)
- Long cardie, mushroomy colour
- Uggs
DB, hope the Drs apt went ok xx0 -
Evening,
Alex - hope the boots can be sorted, how frustrating.
Rainy - wow, back to uni, well done you! Must admint to being envious, my uni experience was great but I'm so much readier for it now and would get so much more out of it (i.e. wouldn't be too shy to speak in tutorials etc).
Vicki - agree with the advice you've been given. Think it's fine to arrive/leave quite casually dressed and just glam up for the actual do. Your dress sounds ideal and I wouldn't spend too much money on extras. Wee bags etc can be picked up in Primark or Accessorize. My view is that it's worth spending more on things you'll wear every day and get loads of wear out of and just go cheap and cheerful for special event stuff - no-one knows the difference!
PF - sending hugs. Not sure what to say for the best. I'm not really a fan of tough love but I guess it does work sometimes so if that's what you need let me know and I'll add a stern talking-to in my best Miss Jean Brodie voice. xx0 -
If that doesn't work PF my Miss Jean Brodie voice is really scary!
