My savings journey

Hope things look up UnluckyT, and hope everyone's keeping well.
With me, things are... Argh! !!!!!!, I've had to pay for something (for someone else - really wasn't any other way round it) so I currently have £48 in my emergency/Xmas fund... I know I am getting it back by the end of the month, but still...
I would've stayed in my overdraft, but the interest rate is 18.90% EAR so NOT doing that. I didn't think it would be that high, I am glad I checked this.
I've decided I am going to start overpaying my mortgage. We really need to start doing it, we've had it for 13 months now and done nothing about it.
Things seem to be not going my way at all this last while, so not feeling too good...

Well, it's time for a mid-month assessment of how I'm getting on, and unfortunately things aren't too great savings-wise, as I've already gone over my £100 target and I still have 18 days to go.
I knew £100 wasn't realistic seen I have a couple of things going on this month, but I thought I'd be able to do better than what I've managed. It's all about discipline really, I have managed to cut down to only one cup of coffee per day and I very rarely buy it from work (or anywhere) now, but I haven't been as disciplined with packed lunches. And how simple is it to make a packed lunch - I am quite annoyed at my laziness....
I am trying to estimate what I'll need to pay for over the next two weeks, and I have just realised I need to make or find a halloween outfit because we'll be going to a fancy dress party.
Anyone got any cool ideas? I've no idea what to go as! I've already done the usual, pirate, witch, vampire, tribal/cave woman, so I am a bit stuck.
I have always made all of my outfits usually by using old clothes or making an outfit from charity chop clothes (or even a pair of curtains one time for the cave woman outfit) so I know I'll not be spending a fortune on this, whatever I decide to do.
I wish I was making better progress with my Base Savings though, hopefully next month will go better.
And I need to start thinking properly about our wedding (so exciting!)

I willGood to hear last week went better!
I am considering going as an out of shape or shabby superhero, think it would be very funny if I can get the right materials. All I'd need I guess are either some funky spandex or leggings, and make a top out of something (thinking this would need to be quite tight, as female superheroes go, with a chunky belt and various accessories) but I don't want it to be slutty, i want it to be funny more than anything.
I'll let you know how I get on
No news savings wise yet, I'll not be able to put any more money away until I get the money I left back so I'll need to post again when that happens.

Hello everyone.
The wheels have come off in truly epic proportion with a massive bill that reached me recently. Wiped out my savings pot entirely and have agreed a payment plan for the remainder.:(
To keep me busy I was elected Senior Shop Steward and have been dealing with disciplinary issues at work. Currently in negotiations with management to get a pay review. Equal pay for equal skills.
Will update when I have something positive to report. For myself I am an optimist - there does not seem to be much use being anything else.

just over a week to go and so far so good.
only spent just over £5 out of other savings on crap and managed to resist the urge. Also where i sorted my gas bill out where i was in credit with the electric, it knocked the gas direct debit out for some reason so i had to give them a ring and sort it out,so im £20 richer.
week and a half to payday and work owes me 15 hours so heres hoping it sorted, plus cant wait for december due to being paid 4 weekly i get paid an extra time so most of the money will be put away, as well as should have paid my council tax up early so will have the money from that to squirril away. probably shouldnt count the pennies before theyre in though?0 -
Hey fairtrade, hope you get the payrise, that sucks about your savings
UnluckyT good news for you then! Wish I was that organised!
I have now reached 35% in my Base Savings target, so I'm close to reaching the March target for it. Worried about the wedding fund, I need to sit down with OH as he wants to get married asap and I'd rather do it properly (on an MSE-stlye budget of course!) so I don't mind waiting a little bit longer if it means we'll be "comfortable" rather than scraping for pennies when the time comes.
He still thinks borrowing thousands of pounds for a wedding is OK. Argh.
I have £100 to do me until the end of the month, and I'm going to a party tomorrow night so hopefully it'll not sting too much.

All is still good so far, I didn’t spend much at all at the weekend which is good and I have no complaints so far.
Hopefully everything will go according to plan until payday this weekend, and then I can start buying my Christmas presents. Yay

I got a few gifts off Amazon for Xmas so far and I am pleased as I’ve spent about £75 on all the main gifts for the in-laws, my dad, and two of my best friends, so I might throw in another small gift but it won’t be anything major.
All I need to do now is sort my brother’s gift, my other friend and my OH, and then that’s me. It’s handy because OH has already told me what he wants so I’ll sort that out either this evening or tomorrow. I am very keen in getting this sorted by mid-November as I absolutely hate rushing around and having to fend through large crowds.
I’ll probably need to see at the end of the month how much money I can save as realistically some of my savings have been for Xmas presents, so they’ll obviously not be too healthy come December.
