Can you get a company to not let you go over minutes?

Hi all,
I'm on orange, and just got the shock of my life when I got my mobile phone bill. Basically, it seems I have gone over 2x my normal minutes.

I am keen for this not to happen again, and wondered if anyone knew if you reach your minutes (eg 400) that you can't make anymore calls.

Cheers,
Ben

nope, there is no way of stopping them, the only thing you can try is asking them to set a low credit limit ie £20 so you can only go over by £20

Vodafone do allow you to set a limit, my daughter has a contract phone, in my name, the bill is £10 per month there is the facility to call me or her dad only after that money is spent, we then get charged for the call but at least she won't end up unable to call us once her allowance is spent. (which she shouldn't)!!!

May work but no company guarantees it will. Billing is not always in real time so charges may take a while to get to the account.

If you really want to control spend go PAYT

there seems to be 'truely' unlimited sim only plan for 35£ a month from giffgaff. it says unlimited calls, unlimited texts and unlimited internet although there is an asterix on the internet bit. i havent read the small print.

can anyone give feedback on the 35£ truely unlimited plan from giffgaff, is there any hitch in that plan other than the costs and no freephone with the plan.

Nice one. I will give Orange a bell tomorow.

I won't say what the exact figure is, but this was for an additional contract I took out at the beginning of the month. It seems the person it was for paid no regard to the proper tariff kicking in 5 days later and KABOOM! Let's just say it was at least a weeks wages. Very hopping mad at the moment!

Thats the normal sim deal. Which is about to be extended slightly.:D

The Goody Bags are a different kettle of fish and include the inclusive internet where appropriate.

if you see the link you have mentioned :), i have actually made a few posts on that thread a while ago. i was aware of that thread, but it didnt answer my queries hence me asking again.

please note the small print on giffgaff
    "Free Mobile Internet:
You lucky giffgaff pioneers can even enjoy free UK mobile Internet up to the end of June 2010. After that date, mobile Internet will be charged at 50p a day (if you use less than 2.5MB/day you'll pay less than 50p and if you go over 30MB you'll be charged extra at 20p/MB). "

this bit doesnt say anything about whether this is applicable to people with bundles of the 35£ a month, or is the quoted bit applicable to only those without bundles.

    also note the following http://giffgaff.com/boiler-plate/terms

"All usage of your giffgaff SIM Card must be for your private, personal and non-commercial purposes. You may not use your SIM Card:
    )(i) in, any other device including a modem connected to a PC.;
(ii) to allow the continuous streaming of any audio / video content,
(iii) or in such a way that adversely impacts the service to other giffgaff customers."

so that precludes the use of youtube, beebplayer, iplayer, internet radio, spotify, tvcatchup websites etc etec etc
