If you dont follow instructions then you could end up with a completely dead computer
I can only go off whats posted and from what I read you hadnt even burned the avira disc to my knowledge
I asked you to run the avira tool which I 'assumed' you had but now turns out you hadnt (Initially).
I asked you to create a NEW restore point then REMOVE the others
Youve (I really dont know why) tried to restore to an EARLIER date which could have undone some of the things weve removed
The star you refer to means your version of XP isnt legit. Not a lot you can do about that save buying a legit version of XP or doing soemthing dodgy to remove the problem (Were not allowed to discuss things of that nature here)

Download and run the FREE version of DR WEB
http://www.freedrweb.com/download+cureit/gr/
Turn your anti virus OFF
Click CANCEL to the 'Would you like to read purchase terms now?' message
Click START click OK
It will auto QUICK scan
After that set to scan the WHOLE computer and press the 'play' icon
***DO NOT UPGRADE TO FULL VERSION***:idea:0 -
Thank you very much aliEnRIK for your reply.
I am disappointed and upset at the reponse. There was never ever any intention to mislead you. I have only posted what has happened my end. I have a pc that appears to have a mind of its own at the moment, sometimes it will send items I post sometimes it wont as The Grandmaster found out the other night. Sometimes it will load items and sometimes it won`t. Sometimes it loses its internet connection without warning. I came on here to ask for help to cure the faults on my pc so why would I want to contradict the advice I am being given?
I will however hold my hands up with the create a new restore point. This was a geniune mistake on my behalf, I did exactly as you said in the first instance but forgot to print off your instructions before hand, so when I was prompted to select a restore date after creating a restore point I did so.
It appears I am still encountering problems, but please don`t let my limited pc knowledge and naivety in pc language put you off helping others.
Again I would like to say thank you for your previous help and posts with advice.0 -

Hi Donnie and many thanks for your post.
I don`t think I can do a clean install as I believe that requires a Windows disk???
When I purchased my pc approx 4/5 years ago it came with Windows XP already installed but no disk. After I carried out a Combofix scan the other night, upon rebooting it revealed that the XP Windows version I had on my pc did not pass Windows validation and as such was probably a counterfeit version. Unfortunately the pc shop where it was purchased from no longer exists, ceased trading approx 3/4 years ago I would guess.
Thank you for your advice and interest0 -
Is it a made up machine or with a brand name?0

I purchased the tower ( it has no makers name or logo, although rather irritatingly it does have a designed for Microsoft Windows XP badge fitted ) as reconditioned with Windows XP preloaded. So I am guessing its probably a made up one????0

This may just be a coincidence that WGA has flagged up now, MS are adding new keys to the blacklist all the time....
do you have a COA sticker on your machine with the licence key code on it ?? if so, you can find an XP ISO on line to create an installation disk with, PROVIDING your COA is indeed genuine.......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Its certainly no intention of mine to upset you (or indeed anyone). But I felt I had to point out how not following instructions correctly can make things worse (or indeed completely dead in some cases):idea:0

Download CrystalCPUID
UnZip it and run the .exe file.
Go to File > Save .txt... Save to your Desktop and post the text here.0 -

No sorry no sign of COA sticker. I`ve even taken the side panel off to check.0
