Anti-virus download problems

I`ve been having problems with my PC recently. I`ve got Windows XP version 2002 Service Pack 3 and at the weekend it wouldn`t load windows at all, just keep at the black loading screen with loading bar continually going from left to right.
I restarted in safe mode with net working and it loaded ok. I managed to carry out an AVG scan and CHKDSK with nothing too suspicious to mention. However after a couple more AVG scans ( 2 trojans detected and quarantined ), rebooting, reinstalling an old version of SpySweeper and scanning and rebooting I eventually got windows to load again.
I have also tried two system restores seemingly without success. The first restore was a date beginning of June 2010 and the second restore a date beginning of May 2010. Upon restarting I was informed the restore had been successful although the faults still remained.
Although it takes a long time for windows to load it will however load now but my internet access appears limited. I use Mozilla Firefox but when I click on a website it redirects me to something completely different:mad:. In addition the screen freezes without warning when viewing websites. The only way out is to click the X at the top right hand corner and wait until I get the Programme not responding message.
I`ve tried using my old Internet Explorer browser, this will work but has the same problems.
My e-mails look to be suffering too, I don`t appear to be receiving or being able to send e-mails?? I sent four this morning and all came back undelivered.
This morning I carried out an AVG scan, this hightlighted some tracking cookies but nothing else.
I`ve also tried downloading the links as detailed in the sticky at the top of the page but every time I click download a message box appears saying Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded. ( I haven`t touched or altered any settings ).
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks:D

Have you tried downloading the latest version of Malwarebytes from filehippo.com or do you get an message saying your current security settings will not allow it.
If you can't downlaod that way have you tried via safemode with networking?0 -
I did post this in response to your original post ~

Thankyou very much fiddiwebb for your reply:D
Thankyou very much also aliEnRIK for your reply:D Sorry for the confusion over the two posts but I didn`t realise what I had done with the first post until after I posted it :embarasse hence the second post.
I fear the worst:mad:.
I tried starting up in safe mode with networking with no problems. Clicked on the first link. The download will start automatically was the message. Another message came up with You have chosen to open mbam-setup-1.46 exe.( I thought to myself.......cracked it) I was then prompted Would you like to save this file with two options, one box with Save file and a second box with Cancel. I clicked Save file and a downloads box appeared with download cancelled:mad: The download box also contained details of other downloads which had also been cancelled.
Thought to myself I`ll try the second link. Same outcome unfortunately.
Where do I go from here?
Appreciate your help, advice and continued support.
Thankyou.0 -
Id suggest you use someones elses computer to burn a cd ~

Or you could try Superantispyware portable, you would have to download it onto a usb memory stick from another computer.
Once downloaded onto a usb memory stick connect the stick into the infected computer and run the programme from the usb stick.
Superantispyware might shift enough nasties to let you download Malwarebytes.

Thankyou very much aliEnRIK and fiddiwebb for your replies and the suggestions you recommend, they are very much appreciated.
:D
I`ll give both suggestions a try in the hope that at least one works.
I`m managing to get internet access to write these posts using Safe Mode but I am reluctant to use this option too much as I don`t know how safe it is. I don`t wish to compromise my already unheathly pc any further!
Anyway, many thanks once again, I`ll let you know the outcome hopefully sometime tomorrow0 -
Hi aliEnRIK and fiddiwebb
I managed to borrow a pc this morning and downloaded the programmes you suggest to a disk and memory stick. I then loaded them onto my pc. The first quick Malwarebytes scan found just one infection ( Vendor Disabled. Securit..30.06.2010. Category Registry Data. Item HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\SECURITY ) which I quarantined.
I rebooted and carried out a second scan which returned no infections.
However, whilst Malwarebytes was scanning an AVG box appeared with a threat found (Trojan Horse Crypt XCN C:\SYSTEM INFORMATION\_RESTORE[898B1A96-3A9A-4EOA-A8F8-416F51705205]VRP246\A0065317) again I quarantined threat.
Another concern is that the BSOD appeared three times during installation of the programmes and scanning. From what I have read perhaps its the hard drive thats causing some of the problems??
After the Malwarebytes scan I did a Hijack this scan with the results listed on next page .
Hope you can make sense of what I have posted. Any further help and suggestions or thoughts on Hijack log would be greatly appreciated.0 -
I assume they would want to see the actual logs themselves. May you put those two from malwarebytes up please?0
-
Sorry but unless anyone has any suggestions it looks like the Hijack this scan log is too big to send. Every time I copy and paste details the page comes up with connection reset error!0
-
Copy in chunks but please don't ommit anything!0
